Geneva Clouse, 82, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 7, 2016, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Mary Louise Mounger

Mary Louise Mounger, 81, of Spencer, passed away Oct. 6, 2016, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.

Mrs. Mounger was born Dec. 31, 1934, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Robert King and Jessie Watson King.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Oct. 8, 2016, at Spencer Funeral Home, with burial in Shockley Cemetery, in Spencer. The family will receive friends 8-11 a.m., Oct. 8, at the funeral Home.

Spencer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Joe David Ray

Joe David Ray, 76, passed away Oct. 5, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Ray was born Sept. 11, 1940, to Johnny Casto Ray and Jeanny Lee Hitchcock Ray.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Ray; and sisters, Mabel Gray, Helen Carter, Dorothy Rust and Mary Gasperone.

Survivors include his son, Ricky Ray and companion Michelle Campbelle, of McMinnville; daughter, Kathy Adams, of McMinnville; special friend, Gladys Garrell, of Sparta; mother of his children, Margaret McBride; grandchildren, Timmy Ray, Troy Ray; great-grandchildren, Hanah Ray, Savanah Ray, Sarah Ray, Breana Ray, Bella Ray; two sisters, Garnetta Flatt, Audi Loftis; and many friends and cousins.

The Rev. Bruce Mounts

The Rev. Bruce Mounts, 73 of, Sparta, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away Oct. 5, 2016, at Life Care Center of Sparta.

He was born Dec. 1, 1942, in Pennsylvania, to Melvin Mounts and Roberta Durig Mounts.

The Rev. Mounts was a Presbyterian Minister for 47 years in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. He served Amity Presbyterian Church, in Dravosburg, for 44 years and retired in June 2016.

He was active in the community, especially devoted to McKeesport Meals on Wheels, The Intersection, The Center for Victims, and the Archives Group of Dravosburg.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Carter Mounts; brothers, Dr. James Durig, of South Carolina, Melvin Mounts, … CONTINUED

The third quarter ends with Warriors trailing Ooleah 42-0, but are driving.

Despite a pair of defensive stops by the Warrior defense in the second quarter, WCHS trails the Owls 28-0 at the half.


Ooltewah adds another score

Thomas Dalton intercepted the Owls, but it was deep in Warrior territory.  WCHS was not able to move the ball and Ooltewah scored on the first possession of second quarter building a 21-0 lead


Another football update

After the Warriors turn the ball over on downs on their first possession, Ooltewah breaks a 60-yard touchdown run on their play to go up 14-0 wirh 6:46 still to play in the first quarter.


Warrior football update

Ooltewah capped off a nine-play drive wirh a one yard touchdown by Cameron Turner at the 9:05 mark of the first period.  The Owls lead 7-0 after one possession.


Voter registration deadline Oct. 11

“If you are not registered but want to participate in the Nov. 8th Election, Oct. 11th is the last day you can register in person at the Election Office. This includes voters who have moved to White County from another county in Tennessee or from another state.” said Dorcas Marcum, Administrator of Elections.

Voter registration forms are available at the Election Office on the second floor of the courthouse or online at http://sos.tn.gov/products/elections/register-vote.

As far as address changes go, Marcum said keeping your address up-to-date could prevent a delay in voting on Election Day.
