Herbert Bibb “Red” Miller

Herbert Bibb “Red” Miller, 87, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 27, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Miller was born April 22, 1929, in Millport, Kentucky, to Nat Miller and Florence Ann Bibb Miller.

He retired after 35 years of work with Ford Motor Company. He served his country in the U.S. Army and enjoyed hunting.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Agatha Rose “Dolly” Miller; daughter, Linda; brothers, William E., T. and Harold Lee; and sisters Ruby Mae, Jospehine and Rebecca.

Betty Ann Aldridge Duncan

Betty Ann Aldridge Presley Duncan, 68, passed away on Dec. 26, 2016, at Saint Thomas Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta.

She was born Dec. 20, 1948, in Falkvillle, Alabama, to John   William Aldridge and Lucille Decatur Aldridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erbie Ardell Duncan; and brothers, Red, Jim and Roger Aldridge.

Survivors include her sons, Elvis Presley and wife Bobbi, James Presley and wife Susan; stepsons, Randall Duncan and wife Rachel, Michael Duncan; grandchildren, Matthew Presley, Shaun Presley and wife Katie, Haylie Presley; great- grandson, Titus Presley; step-grandchildren, Topanga and Felecia Suggs, Morgan Richards, Anthony Duncan, Danielle Duncan, Courtney Mabe; adopted grandchildren, Holly … Read More


Bill Douglas Young

Bill Douglas Young, 81, a resident of Quebeck and Warren County, passed away Dec. 26, 2016, at Saint Thomas West Hospital, in Nashville, following a short illness.

Mr. Young was born Dec. 25, 1935.

A retired truck driver with Textron Camcar and a    member of McElroy Church of Christ, he was the son of John Dolph Young and Grace Adcock Young.

He was married to Shirley Loice Stiles Young, who preceded him in death, on Feb. 14, 2016.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marshelle Young Shannon, and two brothers, John Young and Buddy Young.

Warriors win their first game at the Marlin Christmas Classic

The Warriors took care of business against Cairo High School out of Illinois winning 78-64. Pierce Whited led all scorers with 26 points. Jared Carter finished with 18 points and Saylor Wilson added 11 points. Eight different Warriors scored in the game.

The Warriors are ahead 39-34 at half against Cairo High School. The Warriors are led in scoring by Pierce Whited with 11 points. Jared Carter and Saylor Wilson have both chipped in 9 points.

November unemployment rate improved over 2015

     The latest figures released by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development show modest improvement in White County’s unemployment over the previous year, though a slight dip from the previous month.

According to a report released on Dec. 22, White County’s unemployment rate for November 2016 is 5.3, a slight rise over October’s rate of 5.2, but a decrease from November 2015’s rate of 5.8 percent.
