Phil Gordon McDonald
1951-2017
Phil Gordon McDonald, 65, of Doyle, passed away Jan. 7, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. McDonald was born Jan. 26, 1951, in White County, to Ernest Gordon “Nappy” McDonald and Misty Rose Harris McDonald.
He was a truck driver and served in the National Guard. He loved NASCAR and music.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean McDonald, of Doyle; daughters, Porsche Lyn ( Joseph Thomas), Michaela Henry (Bryon Howell), all of Sparta; sons, Tucker G. Otis Lee Simmons, 81, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 7, 2017, at Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Jan. 11, 2017, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Jan. 11, at the funeral home.
A complete obituary will be available Jan. 10, 2017.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Michael Graham, of the Cherry Creek community of White County, passed away Jan. 7, 2017, at Saint Thomas Mid-Town Hospital, in Nashville.

With the Warriors trailing by 5 with 5 minutes remaining the Warriors would end the game on an 11-2 run to beat the Dekalb County Tigers 64-60. The Warriors were lead in scoring by Pierce Whited with 27 points and Jared Carter also added 18 points.

The Warriorettes took care of business against Dekalb County winning 63-44. Deandra Luna led the way for the Warriorettes with 22 points. Hannah Leftwich also added 19 points.

Ozrel “Ozzie” E. Holeman, 91, was called to his heavenly home, on Jan. 6, 2017.
Mr. Holeman was born Nov. 13, 1925.
He was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, in Mt. Vernon, Arkansas. He served his country in World War II, Third Army and European Theatre, 1944-1946. After returning to civilian life, he married and started a family, in 1946, moving to southern Wisconsin.
In the summer of 1954, he, along with his family, moved to Abilene, Texas, where he attended Abilene Christian University. After graduation he returned to southern Wisconsin where he lost his wife in death, in 1959. He and his two young … Read More

Melinda Ann Jeffries, 39, passed away Dec. 1, 2016, at Cumberland County Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 14, 1977, in Sommers Point, New Jersey, to Robert Jeffrey Leeds Sr. and Suzanne Kennedy Leeds.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, David James Rauschert .
She is survived by her daughter, Savannah Jeffries; son, Tyler Jeffries; father, Robert (Bob) Leeds Sr.; brothers, Richard W. Rauschert, Robert Leeds Jr., Daniel Leeds, Jeff Leeds, Steven Leeds; and sisters, Suzanne White, Victoria Leeds, Linda Leeds and Deborah Hargett Leeds.
A memorial service will be Jan. 7, 2017, at Sparta Civic Center. No time was provided.

Mrs. Willie Elrod Ashburn, 77, of Baxter, passed away Jan. 6, 2017, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.
Mrs. Ashburn was born June 28, 1939, in Putnam County, to Albert “Alb” Riley and Gladys Effie Hayes Elrod.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Columbus D. Ashburn, on Oct. 27, 1988; and several brothers and sisters.
She attended Rock Castle Church and was an ordained minister. She loved to crochet, cook, sing and make chocolate pies. She loved being with family and friends.

James E. McCormick, 82, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 6, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. McCormick was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Sparta, to Rama Arthur McCormick and Lillie Austin McCormick.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and retired from his family business, which he started more than 40 years ago, McCormick Heating and Cooling. He loved talking politics and spending time in the garden on his tractor, but he mostly loved visits from his children and grandchildren.
Mr. McCormick was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rama Jean McCormick; and twins, Austin Raye and Lena Faye McCormick.
