Warriors and Warriorettes start off the district season with wins

The White County High School Warriors (15-3) and Warriorettes (16-2) both had to wait a few days longer than they expected to start their district schedule, but both teams were able to come out with victories on Tuesday night against 6AAA opponent Warren County High School.

The Warriorettes started the game off slow and weren’t able to get anything going until the fourth quarter when they were able to outscore Lady Pioneers 20-11. The Warriorettes ended up winning by a final score of 49-42.

Warriors and Warriorettes sweep season series vs. DeKalb County

On Saturday afternoon, the White County High School Warriors and Warriorettes traveled down to Smithville to take on the DeKalb County High School Tigers and Lady Tigers.

Earlier in the season, White County played DeKalb in Roy Sewell Gymnasium and was able to get wins in both games that night. On Saturday, both teams were able to leave Smithville with the same outcome.

The Warriorettes were able to get the victory on Saturday behind the hot shooting of Deandra Luna and Hannah Leftwich. The Warriorettes defeated the Lady Tigers by a final score of 63-44.

A wonderful Christian wife, mother, friend and teacher of music has joined our Heavenly Father and her family.

We celebrate the beauty of her life and all she was to so many people of all ages.

Carol was born April 8, 1936.

A graduate of Willamette College, in Oregon, she dedicated her professional career to sharing the joy of music as a great music educator to kindergarten through fifth grade students. She always had a song to sing about anything. She retired from West Hills Elementary School, in Knoxville.

She enjoyed her Central Baptist Church of Bearden family, singing in the choir, and her Sunday school classmates.

Christopher Scott Roberts

Christopher Scott Roberts, 42, of Sparta, passed from this life, on Jan. 9, 2017.

Born Friday, April 12, 1974, in Sparta, he was the son of Fred Roberts and Bonnie Cole Roberts.

He was a member of the Athens Church of Christ. Mr. Roberts served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Iraq War. He enjoyed watching football and other sports.

Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herman and Laura Cole and Whitley and Bessie Roberts, as well as several aunts and uncles.

TDCI Securities Division: 18 disciplinary actions taken in 2016

The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s Securities Division announce, on Tuesday, that in 2016 a total of 18 disciplinary actions were taken and over $130,000 in fines and penalties were assessed against individuals and businesses found violating the state’s securities laws.

For January through December of 2016, the TDCI Securities Division processed over 32,000 securities offering filings and logged 64 securities complaints. The Division approved 106 broker-dealer firms and 33,852 broker dealer agents, as well as 50 state-registered investment adviser firms and 1,102 state-registered investment adviser representatives. In addition, TDCI outreach staff conducted 26 investor education events statewide and issued over 40 investor alerts and advisories.

Gov. Bill Haslam proclaims Jan. 12 TN FAFSA Frenzy Day

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has proclaimed Thursday, Jan. 12, as the first “TN FAFSA Frenzy Day,” encouraging high school seniors and current college students to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by Jan. 17 to maintain eligibility for key scholarship programs including Tennessee Promise. Tennessee Promise is the state’s groundbreaking scholarship and mentoring program that provides high school graduates two years of community or technical college free of tuition and fees.

Warriors win big in first district game

The Warriors led by 3 at halftime but were able to outscore Warren County 23-10 in the 3rd quarter to win their first district game of the season. Warriors won by a final score of 61-43. Pierce White led all scorers with 25 points.

Warriorettes come from behind to beat Warren County

The Warriorettes trailed in the game until 5 minutes left to go in the 4th quarter. The Warriorettes held the lead for the rest of the game. Warriorettes pulled out the victory 49-42 and moved to 1-0 in the district. Brooke Stoglin led the Warriorettes in scoring with 12 points.

White County blacksmith to be featured on History Channel
