VAPIT teams will focus on combating elder abuse

A new law effective Jan. 1 aims to combat abuse against some of the most vulnerable population: The elderly.

To do this, the law requires district attorneys general to establish an adult protective investigative team in each judicial district.

The teams will be charged with coordinating the investigation of suspected instances of abuse, neglect or exploitation of an adult and receiving and reviewing information generated by the multi-disciplinary adult protective services evaluation teams.

Kylie Young meets Cake Boss through Make A Wish Foundation

Kylie Young had been fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) for approximately one year when she was given the opportunity of a lifetime: The chance to meet the star of one of her favorite television shows, Buddy Valastro, of Cake Boss.

Kylie, who is 13, was granted this wish by the Make A Wish Foundation, a nonprofit organization that grants the wishes of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

Kylie was diagnosed with ALL, on Dec. 30, 2015.

Edd Rogers, 88, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 2, 2016, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
