Danny Franklin Holman

Danny Franklin Holman, 59, of Sparta, passed away Feb. 26, 2017, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mr. Holman was born April 26, 1957, in Sparta, the son of T.J. Holman and Grissom Holman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, J.D. “Bucky” Cruise, Thomas G. Holman; and sister, Susan Cruise.

Survivors include a sister, Linda Cruise Carter (Carlen), of Sparta; brothers, Ronald Lee Holman (Jeanie), of Sparta, Anthony Bruce Holman, of Sparta, Robert Steven Holman, of Crossville; niece, Jamie Holman Swack (Adam), of Sparta; nephew, Will Holman (Kalya), of Sparta; and great-nephew, Mason Christopher Holman, of Sparta.

Beadie Randolph, 88, of Spencer, passed away Feb. 25, 2017, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

She was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Spencer, the daughter of Charles Brimer and Lula Prater Brimer.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Feb. 28, 2017, at Spencer Funeral Home, with burial in Cummingsville Cemetery, in Spencer.

Spencer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Lewis Hubert Carter Jr.

Lewis Hubert Carter Jr., 51, of Spencer, passed away Feb. 27, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Carter was born Aug. 19, 1965, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Lewis Carter and Lorene Walling Carter.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., March 2, 2017, at Spencer Funeral Home, with burial in Walling Cemetery, in Spencer. The family will receive friends 3-9 p.m., March 1, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m., March 2, at the funeral home.
Spencer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Edgar Evins State Park annual waterfall tours set for March 18

The fact that the Annual Waterfall Tour by Friends of Edgar Evins State Park, Silver Point, is in its 16th year proves that is a very popular one. As always, cameras and walking sticks are welcome. This year the tour will include the falls of Waterloo, Ozone and City Park. Lunch will be at Golden Corral, in Cookeville. A few seats are still available.

Ride a school bus from the office at Edgar Evins State Park to the three falls and restaurant. Sign-in will be at 8 a.m., and the bus will return to the park around 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per person … CONTINUED

Putnam County Sheriff Department will participate in SAFE campaign

Putnam County Sheriff Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office for its annual Seatbelts Are For Everyone (SAFE) campaign. This statewide initiative is designed to increase seatbelt usage and child passenger safety restraint usage through the implementation of occupant-protection programs, public events and checkpoints throughout local communities across Tennessee. The SAFE campaign begins Feb. 1, 2017, and concludes on Aug. 1, 2017.

2017 will be the fourth year that the THSO has sponsored the SAFE campaign. Last year yielded the following results:

  • 1,717 child restraint violations
  • 21,562 seat belt citations
  • 723 other seat belt enforcement activities

The Warriorettes fall in the Region Semifinals 65-41 to the Cumberland County Lady Jets. Deandra Luna led the Warriorettes with 14 points. The Warriorettes finish the season with a 23-10 record.
