Community supports Cassville VFD

The community came out and supported their volunteer fire department this morning at Cassville. The Cassville Volunteer Fire Department hosted their ham breakfast fundraiser and had a good turnout. Volunteer fire departments in White County rely heavily on donations and fundraisers in order for them to be able to fund their training, purchase equipment, and to cover the costs of operating the fire department. Please consider supporting the men and women who volunteer to serve your community fire department the next opportunity you can.


Hickory Valley VFD had a great turnout for fundraiser

This morning, Hickory Valley Volunteer Fire Department hosted their ham breakfast fundraiser. Members of the community turned out in great numbers to enjoy the ham breakfast as well as to support their volunteer fire department. Maintenance work underway at the Sparta Drive-In

The weather is starting to show signs of warming up as Spring is right around the corner. For local movie goers that means only one thing, the iconic Sparta Drive-In will soon be opening for the season. Anyone who travels down Roberts Mathew Highway, you have most likely already seen crews working on repainting the Marquee that has been a fixture of the Sparta community for generations. Tommy Naramore, his company Anchor Management, are busy repainting the famous Marquee in order for it to be ready for opening weekend. Update on Hwy 111 accident

UPDATE: On Feb. 24, at approximately 11:28 am, White County E-911 dispatchers were notified about a traffic accident on Highway 111 Northbound. Emergency personnel  from White County, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol, arrived at the scene, which was just north of the Hampton Crossroads exit. Troopers and emergency responders worked quickly on the scene which included a vehicle that slid into the median of Hwy 111.

While on the scene, emergency responders including those with the White County EMS, encounter numerous motorist who did not appear to make any efforts to slow down or to follow the Tennessee’s “Move Over Law”. TCA 55-8-132, “Move Over Law”, originally passed … CONTINUED


Plainview Free Will Baptist singing

The members of Plainview Free Will Baptist Church, at 685 Will Thompson Rd., in Sparta, and Pastor Gary Humphrey invite you to their first Saturday night gospel singing, at 6 p.m., March 4, 2017. The featured singers will be The Gilbert Family. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the singing. Everyone is welcome.

 


Chili dinner

White County Humane Society/Friends of White County Animals will host their annual chili dinner, 5-7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 629 Valley View Dr., in Sparta. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets are available at The Fragrant Mushroom, The Mad Raven, The Berry Basket, and The Rusty Rooster. All proceeds go towards spay/neuter in White County.


Charles Edward Dickerson

Charles Edward Dickerson, 81 of Sparta, passed away Feb. 22, 2017, at Saint Thomas West Hospital, in Nashville.

Mr. Dickerson was born May 6, 1935, in White County, to Charlie Howard Dickerson and Notie Mall Frazier Dickerson.

He was a retired truck driver and enjoyed dancing.

Mr. Dickerson attended Plainview Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mattie Rice and Jean Smith.

Survivors include two sisters, Jonna (Ken) McCormick, Judy Radford; two brothers, Junior (Frankie) Dickerson, James (Faye) Dickerson; special friend, Lillian Kirby; and two brothers-in-law, J.C. Smith and Arnold Rice.

Anthony Patrick “Tony” Lindsey

Anthony Patrick “Tony” Lindsey, 45, of Sparta, passed away Feb. 23, 2017, at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Mr. Lindsey was born Nov. 9, 1971, in McMinnville.

He was a service engineer and technician for Tyson Chicken and other food processing plants. He was an avid outdoorsman and gun collector.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Patrick Lindsey; sister, Cathy Grissom; and cousin, Tammy Nunley.

Survivors include his wife, Lorrie Lindsey; daughter, Hannah Lindsey; stepchildren, Amber (Jordan) Bain, Ryan Evans; mother, Wanda Lindsey; sister, Nancy (Earl) Keen; brother, Terry (Carol) Breedlove; granddaughter, Karsyn Bain; special nephews, Ricky Keen, Gregory Keen; and numerous family members and friends.

Bake sale raises $357 for St. Jude

Five White County Middle School students got together to raise money for such a worthy cause. They would like to thank all of the Sparta residents who came out and supported them and their cause. Also, they would like to thank Floyd’s Cash Saver for allowing them to host the sale on their premises.
