Joyce Maxine Clark

Joyce Maxine Clark,  79 of Kettering, Ohio, formerly of Sparta, passed away Feb. 18, 2017, at Hospice of Dayton.

She was born April 21, 1937.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Feb. 23, 2017, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Upper Cherry Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends  1-3 p.m., Feb. 23, at the funeral home.

A complete obituary will be provided later today.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Volunteer medical professionals needed for March clinic

The Putnam County Remote Area Medical Clinic is seeking up to 30 additional dental professionals and up to 15 additional optometry professionals to volunteer at the RAM Clinic, on March 18 and 19. Those interested in volunteering should visit www.ramusa.org/volunteer to sign up.

RAM will host a mobile medical clinic, on Saturday, March 18, and Sunday, March 19, at Cookeville High School

Details for the free clinic will follow in a separate press release.


Warriors win the 6AAA District Tournament

The Warriors were tied with Cookeville at 37 all until Cole Crosland took the game into his hands and drove to the basket and hit an off balance shot to give the Warriors the lead 39-37. Then Crosland stole the inbounds pass to run out the clock and give the Warriors the win. Pierce Whited and Malik Murray led the Warriors in scoring with 12 points each.

The Warriors jumped out to an early 10-0 lead over the Cookeville Caviliers in the first quarter and lead 26-19 at the end of first half. Pierce Whited leads the Warriors with 9 points in the first half.


Wreck on Ray Broyles Road

White County E-911 dispatchers received an emergency call of a single-car accident with personal injury on Ray Broyles Road at 5:23 pm. Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Sparta/White County Rescue Squad, White County EMS, and White County Sheriff Department are on the scene assisting those involved. Sheriff deputies are directing traffic due to a lane being blocked.

 


Cassville Volunteer Fire Department breakfast this weekend

On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Cassville Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their ham breakfast fundraiser. Cassville’s breakfast will consist of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, fried potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and drinks. Breakfast will be served between 6am-10am at the fire hall located, 227 Cassville Lane. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children, local delivery is available for orders of 5 or more. Quebeck-Walling potluck

On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Quebeck-Walling Community Club will be hosting a potluck. The potluck will be held at the Quebeck Community Club at, 375 Quebeck Rd. Doors will open at 5:30 pm and the meal will be held at 6pm. Everyone’s requested to bring a covered dish to share with the community. If you have any questions you may call, 931-657-1009.

Republican meeting

The White County Conservative Republicans will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, on the second floor (note different meeting place) of the White County Courthouse. The proposed gas tax increase and other important issues will be discussed.

White County Humane Society/Friends of White County Animals will host their annual chili dinner, 5-7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 629 Valley View Dr., in Sparta. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets are available at The Fragrant Mushroom, The Mad Raven, The Berry Basket, and The Rusty Rooster. All proceeds go towards spay/neuter in White County.
