Norman Russell Rouff

Norman Russell Rouff, 65, of Walling, passed away Sept. 20, 2017, at Riverview Regional Hospital, in Carthage.

Mr. Rouff was born May 24, 1952, to Stewart Rouff and Catherine Russell Rouff.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jo Anna Henry, 55, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 29, 2017, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital.

Born Dec. 25, 1961, in Sparta, she was the daughter of J.T. Henry and Christene Whiteaker Henry.

Ms. Henry was preceded in death by her father.

THP announces Halloween enforcement and safety tips

Don’t be “tricked” into thinking you can drink and drive

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and the Tennessee Highway Patrol urge everyone to plan ahead for a safe Halloween.  The THP is planning increased visibility and enforcement efforts on Halloween to ensure a safe and a happy evening for all Tennesseans.

There were 17 people killed during the 2016 Halloween holiday.  Seven of the 17 fatal crashes were alcohol related.  As of October 24, there have been 99 pedestrian fatalities in Tennessee. That’s 17 more pedestrian deaths compared to the same time last year.

Fresh speaks to women educators

Pictured are Angela Fresh, supervisor of elementary education for White County schools, and Janet Harris Smith, president for Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (a group of key women educators). Fresh spoke on the reading initiative program for the elementary students and the drive to meet state testing standards. Since most of the society members teach in the high school, they had many questions about the program.

The Free Hugs Project is coming to Tennessee Tech University Thursday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in the Tech Pride Room of the Roaden University Center for Mix It Up at Lunch Day.

Ken E. Nwadike Jr. is a peace activist, video journalist and YouTube personality best known as the Free Hugs Guy online. He is the founder of the Free Hugs Project, which produces motivational videos to spread love, inspire change and raise awareness of social issues. Tech men’s golf team wins second place at MTSU Intercollegiate

For the second straight week the Tennessee Tech men’s golf team earned a second-place finish, taking the runner-up spot at the MTSU Intercollegiate at Old Fort Golf Club Monday afternoon.

Closing out their fall schedule at the one-day, 36-hole event hosted by in-state rival Middle Tennessee, the Golden Eagles used the energy of the young bucks to move from third to second over the first and second round among the field of 10 teams.

WCHS swim team gets season started

The White County High School swim team got their season underway on Oct. 25 when they traveled to the Gallatin Civic Center for a Divisional Meet.

WCHS was represented at the meet by 14 swimmers; six of the swimmers are freshmen. White County also had one middle school participant. The WCHS women’s team finished in second place, and the men’s team finished in third place. However, combined WCHS scores added up that they won the meet.

WCHS also had one swimmer qualify for the state meet in two events; two swimmers qualify for the regional meet in two events each. The WCMS swimmer, Abby Welch, also qualified for … Read More
