2018 Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Program in Sparta

For several years, Herman Hill, a prominent and devoted resident of Sparta, organized and sponsored the annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade and program. This has been a great tradition for the community, which continues to encourage a spirit of unity and support among all of the residents of Sparta and the surrounding area.

Mr. Hill passed away in October 2017, and some members of the community are continuing this tradition by planning the activities for the 2018 MLK holiday. These activities are centered on the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday national holiday (Jan. 15). Participants will be honoring Dr. King’s life and legacy and building upon his legacy by living out the dream he shared for a beloved community.  Therefore, in a spirit of love, all members of the Sparta community and surrounding area are encouraged to participate in the 2018 Martin Luther King Jr. celebration activities.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and will run from White County Justice Center to Liberty Square. The program will begin immediately following the parade at The American Legion Building. Light refreshments will be served. Churches, community organizations, and schools are invited to participate in the parade. Line-up starts at 9:15 a.m., at White County Justice Center.
