Exciting things are happening at The Berry Basket, located at 109 S. Wilson St., in Sparta. Renee’ Dunsmore, founder and owner of The Berry Basket, has announced that she is ready to slow down, smell the roses, and retire.

The Berry Basket opened on Oct. 1, 2011 and has grown and prospered each and every year, with 2017 being the best year ever. Customers love the mix of unique country primitive home decor, combined with antiques and plenty of gifts. Sparta Fire Department partners with state fire marshal to provide home smoke alarm installations

For Sparta residents who would like to request installation of a smoke alarm, contact Sparta Fire Department at (931) 738-7380.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office recently announced its continued partnership with Sparta Fire Department by supplying the department with 10-year battery smoke alarms to be installed in homes within the community.

This statewide distribution of smoke alarms, which originally launched in November 2012, is part of the state’s effort to educate and equip Tennesseans to incorporate fire safety into their daily lives. With the help of firefighters at Sparta Fire Department, the state moves closer to its goals in placing lifesaving smoke alarms in each residence.

Police equipped with EpiPens

Law enforcement officers with Sparta Police Department are now equipped with another lifesaving piece of medical equipment because of the generosity of an area foundation.

Jeff Guth, Sparta police chief, recently announced to Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen that the city’s police department would be equipped with EpiPens. Sparta Police Department is one of the latest departments in the Upper Cumberland region to announce that their department will be equipped with the potentially lifesaving medical device.

Methamphetamine charges result in 28 years of sentencing

Two individuals were recently convicted of methamphetamine charges, resulting in 28 years of combined sentencing being handed down to the subjects.

According to information released by the 13th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office, Jordan Lee Reagan and Stacy Spivey Franklin appeared with their attorneys before the Criminal Court of White County, on Jan. 25, 2018. The Warriorettes hold on late to pick up the 58-45 win. The Warriorettes were led by Hannah Leftwich who finished the night with a double-double. Leftwich finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Gracie Dodgen also chipped in 13 points. The Warriorettes will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Cookeville.
