Charles Steven Webb

Charles Steve Webb, 68, of Moscow, Tennessee, formerly of Doyle, passed away Sept. 20, 2018, at this residence.

Mr. Webb was born April 26, 1949, to Skeet Webb and Johnnie Bell Lewellyn Webb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pam Winn Webb; brother, Tom Webb; and sister, Sylvia Webb Mullins.

Survivors include a daughter, Ida (Mike) Whaley, of Germantown; son, Zach Webb, of Moscow, Tennessee; brother Mike (Joy) Webb, of Sparta; stepsister, Joan (Jere) Wilson, of Sparta; brother-in-law, Jess Mullins, of Sparta; sister-in-law, Wanda Webb, of Knoxville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

No services are planned at this time.

John Richard Higgins

John Richard Higgins, 59, of Crossville, passed away suddenly, on Sept. 17, 2018, at his home.

Mr. Higgins was born Aug. 31, 1959, to Raymond Richard Higgins and Alma Pirhonen Higgins.

He was employed at Lowe’s of Crossville. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Amanda (Michael) Nance, of Columbia; two sons, Ryan (Michelle) Higgins, of Pam Bay, Florida, Steven (Rachel) Higgins, of Sanford, North Carolina; three sisters, Nancy Sidwell, Kathleen Jones, Christine Higgins; and one grandson, Caleb Higgins.

The family chose cremation. A gathering family and friends was held 4-6 p.m., Sept. 21, 2018, at Dyer Funeral Home.

William Lloyd Billings, 80, passed away Sept. 24, 2018, at

Signature Healthcare in Putnam County.

Mr. Billings was born on Sept. 5, 1938, in DeKalb County, to William Richard Clyde Billings and Ora Mae Mahan Billings.

He was of the Christian faith. Mr. Billings owned and operated Billings Crane Service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Dunn Billings; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jessie and Sam Dunn; beloved sister-in-law, Margie Hickey; beloved sons, David Eugene Billings, Daniel Lloyd Billings; grandson, Anthony Billings; and two brothers, John Anson Billings and Joel David Billings.

Donald Dewey Higgins, 84, of McMinnville, passed away Sept. 23, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Higgins was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Pikeville.

He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his parents, George Dewey Higgins and Nancy Ritchie Higgins, and four of his siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Peggy Brady Higgins; children, Sharon (Russell) Ferguson, Janice (Ted) Richards, Keith Higgins; sisters, Doris Kimsey, Patricia Powell, Margie Tipton; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; nephews and nieces; and many family friends.

Two vehicle accident on Bockman Way

Two vehicles collided on East Bockman Way Monday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. Authorities say both vehicles had one occupant. Neither driver was seriously injured in the wreck.


Linda Michelle Dunham LaFever

Linda Michelle Dunham LaFever, 48, of Sparta, graduated from this life, on Sept. 23, 2018, at her residence, after a brave battle with cancer.

Ms. Lafever was born Dec. 31, 1969, in Sparta, to Sue Wilson Dunham and Edwin Ray “Buddy” Dunham.

She worked as an agent for Cumberland Insurance for the last 15 years. She loved to travel and spend time with her children.

Ms. Lafever was preceded in death by her father.

Warriorettes have rough end to week for high school volleyball

The Warriorette volleyball team had a tough end to their week. The Warriorettes traveled to Rhea County High School for the final district game of the season.

The Warriorettes struggled in the contest, falling in straight sets. The Warriorettes would lose 3-0 falling 25-17, 25-21, and 26-24.

Hannah Kate Sims led the Warriorettes, finishing with seven kills and one block. Lauren Turner also had five kills and one block.

With the loss, the Warriorettes move to 5-11 on the season and 1-7 in District 6AAA play.

The White County Middle School volleyball team picked up its 16th win of the season, on Thursday night, at home, against North Middle School. The Warriorettes won the game in straight sets, winning 2-0.

In the first set, the Warriorettes jumped out to an early 13-4 lead and would never look back, picking up the 25-12 win. In the second set, the Warriorettes fell behind early 10-6. WCMS football picks up fourth straight win

On Tuesday night, White County Middle School celebrated their eighth graders, and it was also homecoming night. However, when you celebrate homecoming if the football team can pick up a win, it will always make the night that much better. On Tuesday night, the WCMS football team did not disappoint, picking up their fourth straight win in a 32-20 win over Bledsoe County.
