Tracy Leann Martin, 50, of Doyle, passed away July 16, 2019, at her home.

Tracy was born May 6, 1969, in Sparta, the daughter of James and Mable Martin.

She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents, Cordell and Clara Holman and Adus and Dimple Martin.

Survivors include her mother, Mable Martin, of the Fancher’s Mills community, of Sparta; brother, Richard Martin and his wife, Karen Martin, of Sparta; sister, Debbie Martin Whiteaker and her husband, Ed Whiteaker, of Florida; two aunts, Dot Randolph, of Sparta, Bobby Jean Langley, of Cookeville; niece, Jami Martin Hood and her husband, Johnnie Hood, of Sparta; three nephews, Aries … Read More


Derric Duane Henry

Derric Duane Henry, 57, passed away July 15, 2019.

Mr. Henry was born Feb. 28, 1962, the son of Buddy T. Henry and Joyce Graham Henry.

He graduated from White County High School, in 1980. He worked at Mallory Timers for over 20 years. He enjoyed coaching youth sports, in White County

Mr. Henry was preceded in death by his grandparents, L.D. Henry and Bertie Demps Henry and George R. Graham and Allie Slagle Graham.

Survivors include his parents; daughter, Letitia; son, Trae; brothers, Darryl D. Henry (Dorinda), Devin D. Henry (Tammy), of Detroit, Alabama; nephews, Dylan D., Dustin D., Drake D.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.… Read More


Gordon Harris Bumbalough

Gordon Harris Bumbalough, 82, of Loganville, Georgia, formerly of Sparta and a longtime resident of Florida, passed away July 13, 2019, at Park Place Nursing Home and Rehabilitation, in Georgia.

Mr. Bumbalough was born March 22, 1937, in Sparta, to Henry Garfield Bumbalough and Daisy Phy Bumbalough.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He operated front- end loaders and bulldozers in the orange groves of Florida for 40 years.

Mr. Bumbalough was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lola Mae “Betty” Bumbalough; 12 brothers; and eight sisters

Lawrence “Larry” Irvine MacIntosh

Lawrence “Larry” Irvine MacIntosh, 80, of Sparta, passed July 13, 2019, at his home.

Mr. MacIntosh was born May 28, 1939.

He loved Jehovah, nature, music, friends, and family.

Survivors include his wife, Carol MacIntosh, of Sparta; son, Lance MacIntosh (Sarah), of New York; daughter, Leigh Brace (Bill), of New York; granddaughter, Emaleigh Brace, of New York; sister, Helen White (Jerry), of New York; stepson, Edward Gabrielle (Debra), of Sparta; stepdaughter, Anna Gernt (Art), of Florida; stepson, Anthony Gabrielle, of Sparta; stepson, Marvin Blodgett (Christy), of Crossville; and step-grandchildren, Zoe, Eden, Lisa, Sara, Richard, David, Elyssa, Dean, Raylin, Alexis.

Putnam County lawyer censured

On July 16, 2019, Elizabeth Ann Shipley, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court, according to a press release issued by the board.

This public censure arose out of two disciplinary complaints brought against  Shipley.  In the first disciplinary complaint, Shipley was tardy in the payment of restitution to a former client, which had been made a condition of an earlier public censure.

The second disciplinary complaint arose out of an overdraft on Shipley’s trust account.  On October 22, 2018,  Shipley received $500 from clients in connection with a custody case.  The … Read More

Morris named senior executive director at Life Care Center

Life Care Center of Sparta, a skilled nursing, assisted living and rehabilitation facility, is welcoming a new senior executive director, Latessa Morris.

Morris is no stranger to the facility, having started her career in long-term care as a certified nursing assistant there. She also served the building as business office administrative assistant and regional vice president.

Cumberland University and Warriorettes to hold team camp

The White County High School volleyball team will have some great instruction this week as Cumberland University will come to town to help the Warriorettes at team camp. Cumberland volleyball team will be helping the Warriorettes with various skill development and game time drills. The camp will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m., July 16, at White County High School. Coach Joni Simpson Trivette is excited about the opportunity for the girls to be able to have such good collegiate instruction as they prepare for the season. (By JERRY LOWERY)


Dodgen and Murray compete in Nike Tournament of Champions

Two Warriorette basketball players have been busy this past week as they played in a prestigious tournament, in Chicago.  The Nike Elite tournament is very competitive and players from all over the nation meet to compete for the title.  Gracie Dodgen and Mia Murray competed for the Flight Silver team.  The team had a great run and ended up making it to the final four of the tournaments.  Flight Silver came in fourth in the nation.  (BY JERRY LOWERY)


Lowery brings his expertise to sports coverage

The sports department at The Expositor and SpartaLive.com will have a new face around the county this year.

Jerry Lowery will be heading up the sports coverage for the print and online editions.  Lowery has been involved in sports for many years and will now take to the sidelines to help promote and inform White County about all levels of Sports.
