A Rock Island man has been arrested in White County after he was allegedly found in possession of various drugs and a gun.
According to an arrest warrant, on June 22, 2019, at approximately 5:20 a.m., Deputy Steven Hylsky, of White County Sheriff’s Office, was dispatched to 503 Sullivan Knowles Rd. about a male passed out in his vehicle.
According to the arrest warrant, upon arrival, Hylsky attempted to make contact with the male. The subject was non-responsive, and his head was covered in sweat. Hylsky reportedly was able to get the male to finally respond, and, according to the deputy, the subject was “very jumpy and incoherent.”
Hylsky identified the male as Peter James McChesney, 27, of Rock Island. He requested McChesney to step out of the vehicle. Upon exiting the vehicle, Hylsky reportedly observed a pistol in the seat where McChesney had been sitting. White County E-911 then advised Hylsky that McChesney was a registered sex offender, and McChesney then reportedly admitted to being a felon.
Upon searching the pistol, Hylsky found the magazine had been stripped but had a round in the chamber. Hylsky detained McChesney and placed him in the back seat of his patrol car. Hylsky asked White County Emergency Medical Service to check McChesney while Hylsky searched the vehicle for what he believed to be missing ammunition.
Upon searching for ammunition, Hylsky found a case containing multiple baggies, which reportedly contained a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. In addition, Hylsky found a plastic container with a crystal-like substance believed to be meth. Hylsky also located a baggie in the same case with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
The total weight of the crystal-like substances believed to be meth was 7.5 grams at the initial weighing. The green leafy substance believed to be marijuana weighed 1.5 grams at initial weighing.
According to arrests records at White County Justice Center, McChesney was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a weapon during commission of a felony, possession/sell/ manufacturing schedule II meth, and simple possession schedule VI marijuana.
McChesney’s bond was set at $50,000. His initial appearance in White County General Sessions Court was June 25, 2019.
