Alfred “Alf” E. Vinson

Alfred “Alf” E. Vinson, 65, of Sparta, passed away May 30, 2019, at  Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Vinson was born Dec. 20, 1953, in Sparta, to James Floyd Vinson and Ella Pearl Cantrell Vinson.

He retired as a mechanic from AAA Auto and Towing, in 2016.  Mr. Vinson was an avid farmer and referred to farming as his “first love.”  He also worked several years at Wagner Electric as a mechanic.

Mr. Vinson attended Pomona Full Gospel Church, in Crossville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ed, Robert, John, and Roger Vinson; and a sister, Hilda Lois Vinson.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Exum Vinson; son, James Robert (Paula) Vinson; daughter, Amy Lois Lowery; stepdaughters, Amanda Kylene (Mike) Burger, Ashlee Noel (Daniel) Burger; stepson, Randy Alan (Jillena) Burger; eight grandchildren, Aaron, Taylor and (T.K.), John Tyler, Ethan, Kalie Brooke, Zachary, Austin, Jace; six step-grandchildren, Nathan, Dinah, Trinity, Colton, Hayden, Daelee; one great-grandchild, Cole Kress; and two sisters, Talitha (Dale) Looney and Carolyn Murphy.

All survivors are from Sparta.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., June 2, 2019, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in the Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Bro. David Morgan will officiate. The family will receive friends 3-8 p.m., June 1, at the funeral home.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Alfred was a great and honest man who loved the Lord and loved everybody. A true Christian and a light in a dark world. When he gave his heart to the Lord he never looked back.
