A 22-year-old from Chattanooga who was recently arrested in White County on three separate charges was later identified as a gang member from Hamilton County after law enforcement officials ran a background check on the male subject through the National Crime Information Center.
According to the arrest warrant issued in White County for Lavon M. Watkins, 22, on April 23, 2019, Deputy Steven Page, of the White County Sheriff Department, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on Highway 111.
Page stated in the affidavit that he smelled a distinct odor emanating from the vehicle, which he believed to be the smell of marijuana.
Upon searching the vehicle, Page found approximately 4.04 ounces of a “green like material” in the trunk, which he believed to be marijuana.
A 17-year-old was a passenger in the vehicle.
After further investigation, Watkins was reportedly found to be in possession of marijuana.
He was charged with possessions/sale/delivery/manufacturing schedule VI, criminal impersonation, and tampering with/fabricating evidence. Watkins also had outstanding warrants in Hamilton County.
According to records from the White County Jail, Watkins was held on a $30,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in White County General Sessions Court, on April 30, 2019.
