Are you asking yourself, “What the heck is going on?”

Democratic Dialog – By Debra Wines

Over the last couple of weeks, there have been numerous reports regarding Russian ties to several members of Mr. Trump’s family, advisors and associates. Press Secretary Sean Spicer vehemently denies there is nothing “there” and does his best to deflect any questions concerning ongoing government investigations of the suspected Russian influence in our last election or any connections to Mr. Trump. Deflect and avoidance has become the standard operating procedure from the Trump White House.

These accusations and the connection of the dots along the way should be a concern for every American, no matter what your political affiliation may be. I was taken aback when FBI Director Comey testified that the FBI has been investigating the Russian connection to Mr. Trump and his campaign since last July. I was angered because he did not speak of the reality of that investigation until two weeks ago. Didn’t the American people deserve to know about this? Representative Trey Gowdy (R-SC) was sure vocal about his committee’s investigations regarding Hillary Clinton’s responsibility for Benghazi and her emails on a private server, even though his numerous and expensive investigations proved no wrongdoing on her part.   Did Rep. Gowdy know about the FBI’s investigation into Mr. Trump’s Russian connections last July? If he did, he has a lot of explaining to do.

Now we have Republicans becoming further divided by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) and his handling or lack thereof an impartial investigation of Donald Trump’s Russian ties. Rep. Nunes decided to cancel a public hearing in which former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates was to testify along with others who might have been able to shed some light on who, what, when and why certain people in the Trump administration have associated with various members of the Russian government. Rep. Gowdy believes these hearings should be behind closed doors, and the public will not be privy to any information because, according to him, issues of sensitive information may be revealed. Seriously? That kind of thinking didn’t seem to bother him during the Benghazi hearings.

The White House is trying to use everything in their arsenal to block former assistant Attorney General Sally Yates from testifying at all. It should make thinking people wonder why? Why do the ranking Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee want to basically shut down any investigations related to the possibility of Russian involvement with our elections and with the people who are now in the White House and various Republican leaders?

When Senator Lindsey Graham states that Rep. Nunes has lost his credibility to lead this investigation and other prominent Republicans feel that Nunes should recuse himself, this makes me think there is something going on that is much deeper and perhaps more concerning about the numerous obvious connections between Vladimir Putin’s government and Donald Trump’s “business connections.” I have been researching the reason several leaders from both parties have also called for U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from these investigations.

Almost every day, we are hearing and reading reports from media outlets, even a few Fox News reporters, talking about the number of people with ties to Mr. Trump, himself included, and various Russian bankers, possible spies, and sketchy Russian leaders who have very close and profitable ties to Vladimir Putin himself.

The Trump spokespeople try to put a LOT of distance between certain people who have had blatant and undeniably questionable relationships with the Russian higher echelon. Several spokespeople have claimed former Trump Presidential Campaign Manager Paul Manafort was not an important player in Mr. Trump’s campaign. Days later, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Press Secretary Sean Spicer emphatically claimed Mr. Manafort had no active role in the campaign at all, and they implied he was basically unknown to them. If the White House is going to start denying they know anyone with ANY Russian connections, well, it will be interesting to see who may be left to run the presidential office and the country.

Mr. Trump has entrusted his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, with a great deal of responsibility by putting him in charge of trade issues with China and the wall issues with Mexico, trying to broker peace in the Middle East. Last but not least, Jared is heading a new “department” to bring businessmen in to help the American government run more like a business. As Mr. Kushner stated in an interview with the Washington Post last week, “We should have excellence in government. The government should be run like a great American company. Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens.”

There is one major problem with that statement, along with a myriad of smaller problems. The citizens of America, are not customers, we are the bosses! We really do need to remind everyone of those elected and appointed government officials, they work for ALL of us, not just the top 1 percent or 2 percent, but every one of us, no matter what our social status is, what kind of job we have, what the color of our skin is, our ethnic, religious or personal beliefs, our level of education. As long as we are American citizens, they are our employees. The Resistance groups and their various names are showing changes can be made, and we are getting through to some of the people who realize they work for US!

Mr. Kushner may very well be a very bright young man, with good ideas to talk to various prominent businessmen to get some idea about making government departments run more efficiently with computer systems that can “speak” with each other to share important data. I’m sure we all remember the horrendous mess, of a few years ago, when it was discovered the V.A. and the D.O.D. computers could not communicate with each other, and veterans were not able to get the care they needed in a timely manner because their information could not be quickly verified between the V.A. and the D.O.D.

I am concerned Mr. Kushner and this business brain-trust will promote the “privatization” of the majority of our government, and the people will truly suffer, because we will then become customers and not citizens.

There is another concerning issue with Mr. Kushner’s ties to Russian bankers and various Russian political leaders. In Mr. Kushner’s new “job” at the White House, with Mr. Trump’s blessings, how many of those “influential” businessmen, who meet in secrecy, will be Russian or have more “close ties” with the Russian government?

How long can the American people, not just Democrats and Republicans, but ALL AMERICANS, ignore the dots that are being connected about Russian money, policies and influences to Mr. Trump and people in our government?   Who is really running our country, and which direction are we being led and by whom?

A good factually supported piece Debra. Unfortunately the under and ill informed minority that elected 45 will cling to their carefully but porous lies that were fed to them by the 1% wishing to keep them in line. Not until they or their loved ones are affected will they look around and say, “wow I got fooled.” Until then the Jerry Jones’s and other opportunist that run websites out of their garage will keep trying to gag truth and honesty in our nation. Keep it coming. The Dunning Kruger Effect must not last for ever.

Taking a break this week from commenting on Debra “Whines” opinion. I don’t think it’s healthy to expose yourself to that kind of thinking on a weekly basis.
On the other hand, if you want to read something well written and informative, I recommend Jerry Jones piece. I encourage Debra “Whines” and her follower, to read it.

You say it best when you say nothing at all.

Very well written and factual article, it is a serious situation when even members of the presidents own party are concerned about the possibility of collusion between the sitting presidents campaign and an enemy of the United States of America. G.B., glad you decided to ‘take a break’ from your outlandish and fact less comments, but commending the nonsense of Mr. Jones rantings just amplifies your hollowness.
