Are you likely to share good news or bad news more?

Today the word news has a whole different meaning than years ago. There is a new term called “fake news” that has surfaced since our last election referring to reporting lies as facts. Webster’s definition of the word “news” means a report of recent events or previously unknown information. In this era of smart phones, internet and social media, the average citizen can be their own Walter Cronkite or Barbara Walters. You can either share good news, bad news or fake news.
Did you know the meaning of “gospel” is good news! Has meeting Jesus change your life? That’s good news! Reading the Bible, we find that all through it there are moments of deception, disagreements, discouragement and rebellion. Then the Lord sends a messenger with a message of hope and good news that He is still God no matter what. Someone in your world has gotten bad news, fake news, discouraging news that can defeat them mentally, physically or spiritually. You be the bearer of bringing them good news!
If they are a brother or sister in Christ who is walking in sin, love them into repentance. Nathan helped King David repent, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you. (Psalm 51)
If a friend or family member is facing a crisis of some kind, then pray with them and break the silence with scripture or song. My life verse as a pastor is Proverbs 3:5-6. It helps me remember that I cannot trust my own way, but I need to trust Him fully because He will keep me going in the right direction. “Trust the Lord with all your heart and do not lean unto your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.” If they don’t understand who God is then remember their trust is in themselves and mankind. The lost need to hear us share scripture, “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).
Our job, Christian, is to bring love, hope and faith into other people’s lives. Do you bring “good news” into a situation or bad news? Negative Christians that have no faith, no hope and no love are killing the real testimony of the gospel. The unchurched are reading your posts, listening to your conversations and are hearing the “news” you are proclaiming. We need Christians that are striving to share the gospel truth. Your testimony is a test! Life is tough and we must face it with the attitude of being gospel centered. It is not about you but Him! Don’t fall into the trap of gossip, stirring up strife and trying to win a silly argument with more passion than winning souls.
David, after repenting and rebuilding his testimony proclaimed Psalm 40:9-10, “I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness in the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O Lord, You Yourself know. 10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your loving kindness and Your Truth From the great assembly.”
