October is National Walking Month. Walktober is a walking challenge between the communities of Van Buren County: Bone Cave, Cedar Grove, Cummingsville, Fall Creek Falls, Mooneyham, Piney, Rocky River, Sparkmantown, and Spencer. Track your steps from Oct. 1-31

For each community, we will find the total number of steps per community (sum of steps for those that submit the Walktober log) and divide by the total number of participants to get each community’s average. The community with the highest step average will be the winning community. The winning community will be the recipient of the Walktober Winner Banner to hang at their community center, as well as bragging rights.

Three Van Buren County winners will be awarded prizes for taking the most steps. The Family (or team with up to five members) with the most steps will also be recognized.

In addition to prizes for the top three winners with the most steps, there will be random prize drawings. How does the drawing work? For every 50,000 steps, you’ll receive one entry into the drawings. There will be three random prize drawings for individuals with over 50,000 steps.

More information will be available through the next few weeks. Until then, if you have questions, Contact Kelly L. Lewis at klewis1@vanburenschools.org
