Bain pleads guilty to attempted murder charge

A 28-year-old woman charged in the Jan. 6, 2006, shooting death of Sparta resident David Anthony Welch has pled guilty in DeKalb Criminal Court proceedings to attempted first degree murder.
Tina Rose Bain, of Smithville, along with Michael E. Johnson, 33, of Sparta, was charged with Welch’s death that occurred one year ago in Smithville. Heather Trapp, 23, of Smithville, was also shot during the incident and survived. Trapp was shot in a back room of the DeKalb County residence, while Welch was shot in bed.
Bain and Johnson were arrested in White County the same day as the shooting.
Johnson received a life sentence in August 2006 after pleading guilty to first-degree murder charges.
In a plea agreement in December, the other charges of first- degree murder, felony murder and theft were dropped against Bain. She was sentenced to 22 years on attempted first-degree murder.
