Billie Ray Dickerson, 77, of Sparta, passed away May 7, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Dickerson was born June 2, 1940, in Sparta, to Henry Thomas Dickerson Sr. and Alma Shelton Dickerson.

He had a career that spanned from auto sales to road construction. Mr. Dickerson was better known as a “trader.” He enjoyed trading on anything he thought he could get or make a good deal on, from typewriters to automobiles. Mr. Dickerson also enjoyed raising cattle and dirt track racing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Henry Thomas “Boonie” Dickerson Jr. and Billie Gene Dickerson.

Survivors include his son, Darrell Dickerson and wife Tina, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Jacob Dickerson, Emily Emery and husband Brent, Kendra Hicks, all of Cookeville; mother of his son, Hazel Dickerson, of Sparta; three great-grandchildren, Libby, Kolby, Kaitlyn; sister, Helen Frazier, of Sparta; brother, Joe Dickerson and wife Larona, of Sparta; and special caregiver, Sandy Garrett, of Cookeville.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., May 10, 2018, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Saylors Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., May 9, at the funeral home. Gary Humphrey and Josh Myers will officiate.

Justin Thompson, Brent Clemons, Reese Parks, Kevin   Daniels, Billy Gene Ray, and Michael Conley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Daryl Leonard, Sadie Howard, Thurman Price, and Lenell Randolph

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hunter Funeral Home.
