Bonnie Bernice Howard Saylors, 96, of Sparta, passed away July 27, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Saylors was born June 30, 1913, to Mark Hemp and Hester Pennington Howard.
She was a member of the Methodist Church more than 60 years. She taught in the elementary schools in White County more than 30 years and was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association and United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Saylors was preceded in death by her husband, Cordell Saylors, and a brother, Robert Franklin Howard.
Survivors include her children, Dinah Saylors, of New York City, N.Y., Linda Wilson and husband Gary, of Hixson, Julia Ruby, of Normal, Ill., Eugene Saylors and wife Rhonda, of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Gregg Wilson, Stephanie Wilson, Tracy Humphrey, Aaron Ruby, John Ruby, Brad Saylors, Melissa Saylors, Renee Saylors; and six great-grandchildren, Rykley Alan Ruby, Schaler Aaron Ruby, Finley Bernice Ruby, Reagan Noreen Humphrey, Cole Lewis Humphrey, Elliot John Humphrey.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., July 30, 2009, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Saylors Cemetery. Pastor Paul Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m., July 29, at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to longtime caregiver and friend, Rose Brown and Carolyn Hitchcock.
