The White County Budget Committee met Jan. 7 to discuss allocation of funds and the budget calendar for 2019.
Creating a budget calendar in an in-depth process that must include all the departments under the county’s payroll.
“We’ll start next week distributing all of our proposal forms to all of the departments,” said White County Director of Finance Chad Marcum. “Everybody is used to that. Based off of those, we will have some preliminary information on what kind of requests we are looking at and who has some big items.”
Marcum said based off of what the departments send back as requests for purchase, his office would start to pull together a preliminary budget for the county. Then, the committee members can determine which departments will be requested to appear before the committee to explain their budgetary requests.
Marcum went on to explain to the committee that when a department asks for items beyond anything customary, it is usually good practice to talk to that department.
“I feel like we should be able to get this done by June,” said Marcum. “I don’t see any big issues going forward with the calendar.”
The committee approved the motion for Marcum to go ahead with the budget calendar process.
Other items on the agenda included:
-Fiscal year 2019 budget amendments for inmate healthcare at the jail and school projects fund
-Giving a raise to the two part-time employees at the White County Animal Shelter. The matter was approved by the committee and will be sent to the full court.
-Purchase of property near the White County Health Department. Steering Committee A agreed to spend up to $30,000. The budget committee voted and agreed to send the matter to the full court.
-White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson informed the committee that he will be turning the deed to the old Help Center back over to the Sparta Presbyterian Church as it states must be done within the deed document. No vote was needed.
