Lynda Christine Hines, 68, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 16, 2018, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.

Born Oct. 30, 1950, in McMinnville, she was the daughter of Charlie Lee Spakes and Mary Deltress Rankhorn Spakes.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Andrews Cheek, 77, of Sparta, went to her heavenly home, on Nov. 17, 2018.

Carolyn was born Oct. 16, 1941, in Memphis. She adored her husband and sweetheart of 57 years, Ernest Martin Cheek.

She is the mother of three children, John Cheek (Jongee), Courtney Vaughn (David), and Julie Anderson (Mike). She dearly loved her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who brought much joy to her life. Her grandchildren are Michael Seth Anderson (McKenzie), Caroline Holman (Todd), Rachel Cheek, Tyler Vaughn, and Will Cheek. Her great-grandchildren are Adalee Hampshire and Blaine Holman.

Susan Elaine Clements Hollingsworth, 58, passed away Nov. 13, 2018, at her residence, in Brandon, Mississippi.

Mrs. Hollingsworth was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Westview High School and the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Mrs. Hollingsworth is survived by her husband, Mike Hollingsworth, of Brandon, Mississippi; her son, Denzil Jacob Abney III, of Cookeville; her sister, Ruth (Jim) Crocker, of Martin; and two brothers, Joel (Carla) Clements, of Murfreesboro, and Phil (Dawn) Clements, of Henry.

Bernice Geanette Stewart, 86, of Nashville, passed away Nov. 15, 2018, at Rose Care, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Born Aug. 3, 1932, in Sparta, she was the daughter of Liff Powell and Arrie Eller Powell.

She loved to cook and spend time with her family. She was very active in the work of the church. She was a member of Pennington Bend Church of Christ.

Roger Earl Henry, 59, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 16, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Henry was born Feb. 26, 1959, in Sparta, to Junior Henry and Wilma Earlene Vinson Henry.

He was a self-employed handyman. Many would consider him a jack-of-all-trades

Mr. Henry was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Matthew Henry.

James Oral Dishman, 82, of Spencer, passed away Nov. 15, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Dishman was born May 1, 1936, in Spencer, the son of Ami Dishman and Bertha Lee Dishman.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Nov. 18, 2018, at Spencer Funeral Home, with burial in Shockley Cemetery, in Van Buren County. The family will receive friends noon-9 p.m., Nov. 17, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Nov. 18, at the funeral home.

William “Bill” Horton

William “Bill” Horton was born on May 27, 1942, at the Horton family homeplace, in Doyle, Tennessee, to James and Mary Lou Horton.

A lifelong resident of Doyle, he graduated from White County High School and served in the National Guard and later as an alderman for the Town of Doyle. He married Diane Smith, in 1975, and they raised three sons: Devin, Darin, and Dennis. He passed away Nov. 14, 2018, at his home in the arms of his loving wife, after a 13-year battle with cancer.

Doris Ann Daulton, 76, passed away Nov. 12, 2018, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Born July 26, 1942, in Pleasant Hill, she was the daughter of Aubrey C. Randolph and Hattie Jo Wilson Randolph.

Mrs. Daulton worked at Potter Orphan Home and School for 40 years, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and she was also a foster mother to many children for 15 years. She dedicated her life to serving God and doing His work faithfully every day of her life. Mrs. Daulton was the president of NAMI (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill), Bowling Green, Kentucky, chapter.

Willie Creed McCormick, 89, of Cookeville, passed away Nov. 8, 2018, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, in Knoxville.

Born Feb. 10, 1929, in Spencer, he was the son of James McCormick and Lydia Dodson McCormick. He was the husband of Edna Luna McCormick.

Mr. McCormick was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sparta for many years. He loved to fish and enjoyed being a husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family.

James Morell Baker, 83, was a born to Francis Morell and Ruth Elizabeth Canada Baker, on Jan. 27, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan.

He passed away Nov. 10, 2018.

Mr. Baker lived a large portion of his youth in Ohio and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He studied at General Motors Institute.

He was a retiree of Martin Marietta, now known as Lockheed Martin, in Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Baker traveled the country and worldwide as a field service engineer for Martin Marietta. He was a technical class instructor for various missile systems, including Redstone, Jupiter, and Pershing Missiles, as well as the infrared on the F4, in Iran, Japan, and Israel.… Read More

James Lester “Jim” Horton, 66 of Sparta, passed away Nov. 11, 2018, at his sister’s residence.

Mr. Horton was born Sept. 26, 1952, in Sparta, to Herman Horton and Viola Briggs Horton.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Nov. 15, 2018, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-3 p.m., Nov. 15 at the funeral home.

Born Nov. 30, 1944, in Sparta, she was the daughter of William Thomas Anderson and Lela Mae Norris Anderson.
