Bernard R. Sherman, 74, of the Cagle community, passed away July 1, 2019, at Memorial Hospital, in Chattanooga.

Mr. Sherman was born Dec. 11, 1944, in Dunlap, to I.B. Sherman and Bertha Pauline King Sherman

He was a United States Army veteran of Vietnam.  He worked at Loraine Crane, in Chattanooga, and later he operated the Triangle Service station, in Cagle, for many years and worked at Camcar Textron, in Spencer, before his retirement.

Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Scissom Sherman; and his son, Kirk Sherman.

Edmonda Young Stephens, 98, passed away June 30, 2019.

Mrs. Stephens was born March 27, 1921, in Warren County, to Oscar Waymon “O.W.” and Ollie Mae Adcock Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Howard Stephens; daughter, Carolyn Oliver; son-in-law, B.K. Luna; brothers, Calbert Young, Barnett Young, Carl Young, Harold Young, Oscar “Jr.” Young; and sisters, Ruth Taylor and Clayton Cope.

Minnie Belle Myers Scott, 91, passed away June 29, 2019, at her home, in Doyle.

She had a degree in psychology from Tennessee Tech and worked for many years for LBJ&C.

She was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Pikeville, to John Alexander Walker and Susie Elizabeth Music Walker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Harvey  Nolan Myers, Jimmy C. Scott; brother, Clint Walker; sister, Lillie Mae Davis; sons, Donald Anthony Myers, Jeffery Lynn Myers; and daughter, Shawna Evon Myers.

Selena Nicole Hutton, 31, of Sparta, passed away June 28, 2019.

She was born March 22, 1988, in Holland, Michigan. She was the daughter of Dennis Hutton and Jeanna Tayes Simpkins.

Selena loved to draw, and she also loved poetry, make-up, and her job as a cosmetologist.

James Monroe Measles, 73, of Sparta, passed away June 24, 2019, at University of Tennessee Medical Center, in Knoxville.

Mr. Measles was born Nov. 5, 1945.

Raymond Kenneth Johnson, 82, of Sparta, passed away June 25, 2019, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.

Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 2, 1936.

He attended the Tennessee School for the Deaf, in Knoxville.

The Johnson family has entrusted Hunter Funeral Home with his cremation, and a memorial service will 5 p.m., June 28, 2019, at Hunter Funeral Home. The family will receive 3-5 p.m., June 28, at the funeral home.

Thomas E. Swoape, 90, of Sparta, passed away June 25, 2019, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mr. Swoape was born April 6, 1929, in Viola, to Clifford and Sallie Swoape.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Doyle community. Mr. Swoape loved gardening and working out on the farm. He was a longtime member of the Church of God of Prophecy, in Sparta.

Mr. Swoape was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Ruby Jo Grogan Swoape, after almost 70 years of marriage; and two  brothers, Jackie Swoape and Lonnie Swoape.

Thomas E. Swoape, 90 of Sparta, passed away June 25, 2019, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m., June 29, 2019, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Doyle Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., June 28, at the funeral home.

Lucious Edward Howard, 64, retired lieutenant with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, passed away June 25, 2019, in Kingston.

Ret. Lt. Howard was born Feb. 10, 1955, in Spencer, to Ronald and Deltrice Howard.

He graduated from Van Buren County High School, in 1972. He was dedicated to his family and his brothers and sisters with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He was an active volunteer with the Roane County Jail Ministry helping those in addiction.

Earl S. “Sandy” Lowery, 60, passed away from this world in the early afternoon of June 23, 2019, while sleeping at his home, in Sparta.

Earl was born Aug. 28, 1958, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to Earl Lowery and Effie Mae Lowery.

Earl loved art. He did a cartoon column for local newspaper when he was 12 years old. He did logos for company t-shirts and numerous paintings for people.

Reba Inez Frasier Young, 76, of the Bon Air community of White County, passed away June 23, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Frasier was born March 31, 1943, in Sparta, to Thomas Leslie Frasier and Rachel Lorene Payne Frasier.

She retired from Mallory and also had a career making wedding and birthday cakes. Mrs. Young loved Civil War history and traveled to many of the battlefields.  She was an avid University of Tennessee and NASCAR fan, but mostly she loved spending time with her family and living on Bon Air Mountain.
