Robert Wayne Jones, 75, of Alabama, passed away Aug. 16, 2018.

Mr. Jones was born Dec. 24, 1942.

He was a member of Gulf Shores Baptist Church; a member of Masonic Lodge in Dayton, Tennessee, for 50 years; and a charter member of the Sertoma Club, in Orange Beach, Alabama. Mr. Jones was an avid University of Tennessee Football fan and U.T. athletics annual contributor since 1968. He was also a board member of Northeast Alabama Health Services.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Irene Seals Jones; father, David Eston Jones; and four brothers, Gerald Dan, Donald Lloyd, Billy Dwayne, and Larry Ronald.

Tony Cameron Saturday, 54, passed away Aug. 16, 2018.

Mr. Saturday was born Sept. 13, 1963, in Sparta. He worked in the bakery section of Publix and enjoyed cooking in his off time. His nieces were his pride and joy.

Mr. Saturday was preceded in death by his father, Carlton Howard Saturday, and his brother, Scott Saturday.

Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Dunham, of Sparta; sister, Carol “Sissy” Saturday, of Gallatin; brothers, Barry (Leslie) Saturday, of Nashville, Richie Dunham, Corey Dunham; and several nieces, nephews, and aunts.

Harold Leroy Broyles, 86, of Jackson, passed away Aug. 20, 2018, at home, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Broyles was born Jan. 23, 1932, in White County, to Mark Broyles and Irene Rascoe Broyles. He was one of nine children.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Broyles graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, in 1958. He met his sweetheart at church, in Memphis. They married, on July 25, 1958, and moved to Jackson to work for Jackson General Hospital. He was a practicing pharmacist for over 25 years, including serving as the assistant chief pharmacist.

James Roland “Jim” Shanks, 64, publisher of The Expositor, in Sparta, passed away Aug. 17, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He is now resting safely in the arms of Jesus.

Jim was born Dec. 15, 1953, the son of Thad and Madeline Shanks.

Jim became a member of the Sparta-White County community more than 10 years ago. Since the first day he walked into The Expositor, as the new publisher, he made numerous lasting friendships through his contagious smile and his winning personality.

Lonus Junior Barnett, 84, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 17, 2018, at his home.

Mr. Barnett was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Albany, Kentucky, to Lonus H. Barnett and Bell Sells Barnett. He had over 31 years as a work career at General Motors. He was a farmer and avid gardener as well. After retirement, he relaxed by working to help his community. He would cut wood, pick up neighbors’ leaves, and clean off wintry sidewalks, in Indiana. When he moved to Sparta, he gave a lot of his time helping to maintain Plainview Cemetery.

Dora Bell Brady Pollard, 65, of the Gum Springs Mountain community, of White County, passed Aug. 15, 2018, at her son’s residence.

Mrs. Pollard was born March 17, 1953, on Gum Springs Mountain, to James Martin Brady and Mildred Naomi Young Brady.

Danny Wayne Cravens, 62, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 12, 2018, at his home, in Sparta.

Mr. Cravens was born Oct. 14, 1955, in Sparta, Earl Casto Cravens and Gladys Marie Polston Cravens.

He was the business owner of Dan Cravens General Auto Repair, as an automotive painter and mechanic, who was wildly talented and what some would call redneck-ingenuity, referring to his yellow wrecker. He taught many people skills that they carry on with them forever. He was a simple man, humorous, very generous, caring, rough around the edges guy, but most compassionate.

Cornelia Dodson Steakley, 97, of Cookeville, passed away Aug. 9, 2018, at Bethesda Health Care Center.

Mrs. Steakley was born Sept. 14, 1920, in the Big Bottom community, of White County, to D.W. and Mattie Lee Dodson.

She was a former garment factory worker. She was a member of the Church of Christ and attended Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ.

Mabel Kate Yott Graham, 101, passed away Aug. 10, 2018, in Pleasant Hill.

Mrs. Graham was born July 6, 1917, on Bon Air Mountain, to Bessie Brown Yott and Robert Earl Yott, a coal miner.

She was the fifth of 11 children. She attended school through the eighth grade at DeRossett School.

On Jan. 11, 1936, a promised trip to the movies with Robert Lee Graham turned into a visit to the justice of the peace, in Pleasant Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Graham were married that night, and they spent nearly 60 years as husband and wife.

Robert Eugene Goodwin passed from this life peacefully, on Aug. 4, 2018, in Thompson’s Station, Tennessee.

Mr. Goodwin was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Sparta, Tennessee.

He was preceded death by his father, Hershel Goodwin, and his mother, Rubye Davis Goodwin.

He is survived by his four daughters, Janis A. Goodwin,  Audry J. Fortunato, Jacquelyn M. Barloon, and Dawn Goodwin Smith.

He chose cremation, with the Neptune Society handling arrangements.

A private memorial service for the family will be planned in the near future.

Dawn Yvonne Hudson Gallaher, age 81, of Quebeck, went to her heavenly home on Aug. 13, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Dawn was born Dec. 3, 1936, in Hartsville.

A loving wife to Robert “Bob” W. Gallaher for 63 years, she has three children, Greg (Connie) Gallaher, of Georgetown Kentucky, David Gallaher of Sparta, and Robin (Bill Toye) Gallaher of Cookeville.

She dearly loved all her grandchildren who brought much joy to her life. She was born March 1, 1952, to William “Bill” Franklin Lee and Elizabeth Rickets Lee.

Funeral service was 4:30 p.m., Aug. 5, 2018, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Cemetery.

The Rev. Jonathan Wayne Spence, 48, of Alexandria, went to be with Jesus, on Aug. 7, 2018, after living with chronic pain for many years.

The Rev. Spence was born Jan. 21, 1970, in Grundy, Virginia.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Aug. 12, 2018, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Hunter Memorial Park, in Wilson County. The family will receive friends 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Aug. 12, at the funeral home.

Walter Allen Howard Sr. passed away Aug. 2, 2018, at a local hospital.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Sam and Della Howard.

He left behind two sons, Walter Allen (LaDonna) Howard and George Scott (Michele) Howard, along with several grandchildren.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, of Georgetown, Tennessee. He loved cooking and sharing his meals with others. He was multi-talented and loved bluegrass music.
