Omazie Price Copeland, 91, of Duncanville Texas, formerly of Sparta, passed away March 7, 2019, in Texas.

Mrs. Copeland was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Sparta, to Charlie Essel Price and Maryluna Goodwin Price.

She was a former employee of Sparta Manufacturing Company and later worked in a beauty shop, in Texas

Mrs. Copeland was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Glenda Gail Copeland; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Phillip Glynn Copeland, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., March 13, 2019, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Saylors Cemetery.  The family will receive … Read More

Gary Levon Seibers, 67 of Quebeck, passed away March 10, 2019, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mr. Seibers was born Nov. 5, 1951, in Sparta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Lee Seibers and Mable Bernice Hutson Seibers, and two sisters, Etta Ruth Seibers Dailey and Linda Frank Seibers Smart.

Janice Sue Stafford Hutson, 75, passed away March 10, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Hutson was born Feb. 27, 1944, to Lando and Ruby Elizabeth Stafford, of Sparta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hutson; parents, Lando and Ruby Stafford; mother-in-law, Kathleen Hutson; and father-in-law, Luther Hutson.

Mary Kathryn Jones, 65, of Manchester, passed away March 5, 2019, at her sister’s residence, in Sparta.

Born Monday, July 20, 1953, in Nashville, she was the daughter of James Binns and Frances Bragg Binns.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with Mrs. Jones’ cremation.

There will be celebration of her life at a later date.

Charlene Brown, 75, of Sparta, passed from this life, on March 6, 2019, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.

Mrs. Brown was born May 4, 1943, in Dalton, Georgia, to Cora Frances and Charles Edward Skipper.

Her father, Charles, died in combat in World War II. When Charlene was 4, her mother married George S. Jones from Shelbyville, Tennessee, who would fulfill the role of father perfectly. Charlene spent her young life, in Shelbyville, graduating from Shelbyville Central High. She attended both Freed-Hardeman and Lipscomb universities. Cheryl Annette Geer, 58, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away Feb. 4, 2019.

Mrs. Geer was born on Sept. 9, 1960, in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

She had lived in several states with her parents before settling down with her husband, in Illinois. She had their son, in 1992, and moved to Texas, in 1998. Texas quickly became home.

Her hobbies were modest – crocheting, knitting, needlepointing, raising her son, and loving the family life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin and Lilly    Holstad; brothers, Robert Duke, Paul Duke; grandmother, Mamie Chamberlain; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Peggy Geer.

Sterling Rose, 87, of Pleasant Hill, passed away March 4, 2019, at Cumberland Medical Center, in Crossville.

Mr. Rose was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Sparta, the son of Wesley Rose and Elizabeth Welch Rose.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force, with 20 years of service, and also retired from the U.S. Postal Service, with 20 years of service. He attended Sparta First Free Will Baptist Church.

Mr. Rose was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edna Key; two brothers, Carl Rose, David Rose; and son-in-law, Stephen Broom.

Thomas Roger “Pops” Hall, 76, passed away March 3, 2019, after a long battle with illness.

He was born  March 22, 1943, in Livingston, and was raised in Dayton, Ohio, since the age of 4.

Mr. Hall graduated from Stivers High School, in 1961.  He continued his education, in Louisville, Kentucky.  Mr. Hall was employed at Inland General Motors at age 18 where he studied and worked himself up to an electrician.  He retired after 37 years of service, in 1998, after a major stroke.

Willie Franklin “Bill” Shelton, 88, of Sweetwater, formerly of Sparta, passed away March 4, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Shelton was born July 30, 1930, in White County, to John Henry Shelton and Oma Mosley Shelton.

He had an active work career that included owning and operating his own trucking company, rock quarry work, welder, and owning a sporting goods store. Mr. Shelton raised champion coon hunting dogs and most recently Beagle dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Patricia Shelton, Raynell Shelton, Virginia Lorene Prater, Lloyd Shelton, Gerald Shelton, Azilkie Gilliam, and Sanford Lee Shelton.

Christopher David Bryant, 52, of Gordonsville, passed away March 1, 2019.

Mr. Bryant was born Aug. 9, 1966, in Crossville, the son of Janice Marie Lewis Bryant and Robert Haskel Bryant.

He worked for Rogers Group for a long period of time and spent    most of his time doing underground mining. Mr. Bryant was a great storyteller. He loved the outdoors, animals, and

playing with his children and later his grandchildren. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for 16 years and was very proud of his two sons serving in the military: Eli, in the U.S. Marine Corps, and Caleb, in the U.S. National Guard.

Harold Scott, 62, of Sparta, passed away March 4, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family.

Mr. Scott was born March 21, 1956, in Sparta.

He was a mechanic. He loved working on cars, bonfires, beer, and spending time with his friends. He was a loving man.

Edward T. VanLeer, 66, of Sparta, passed peacefully, on Feb. 28, 2019, with family at his side, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center,

Raised in Elmer, New Jersey, Mr. VanLeer was the son of Wilbert and Helen VanLeer and a graduate of Woodstown High School, class of 1971.

After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas, and Mainz, Germany, as a cook. Mr. VanLeer was very proud of his veteran status and service to his country. Turner Odell Haney, 86, of Spencer, passed away March 2, 2019, at his home.

Mr. Haney was born March 14, 1932, in Jackson, Tennessee, the son of Samuel Hailey Sr. and Maude Odell Haney.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., March 7, 2019, at Spencer Funeral Home, with burial March 8, in Jackson Cemetery, in Collinwood, Tennessee. The family will receive friends 4-9 p.m., March 6, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m., March 7, at the funeral home.

Spencer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
