Volleyball season gets underway. The Warriorette volleyball team opens their season at Coffee County today (Monday) The varsity match is at 6 p.m. with a junior varsity match set to begin at 5 p.m. Members of this year’s team are ( front row, l to r): Leah Simmons, Megan Wilson, Caylee Tollison, Shelby Johnson, Macy Cash, Hopelyn Brewington and Malaysia Carrick. Bumping it backward. Sydney Holeman bumps the ball back over the net during the play-in loss by the Warriorettes to the Lady Jets in Friday’s 6AAA tournament game.

The White County High School volleyball season came to an early end in the play-in game of the District 6AAA tournament, which was being played at Roy Sewell Gymnasium.
The Warriorettes finished fourth in the regular season and had to take on fifth seeded Cumberland County in Monday’s play-in game. The two had split their regular season meetings and the play-in game went right down to the wire.

WCHS hosting District 6AAA volleyball tourney

The volleyball teams of 6AAA will converge on Roy Sewell Gymnasium Monday and Tuesday, September 8th and 9th, for the district tournament.
There will be two games on each night with the championship game slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday. The top two teams from the district tournament will advance to the Region 3AAA tournament.
The Warriorettes will open play in the tournament Monday at 5 p.m. against Cumberland County. WCHS is the fourth seed and the Lady Jets finished fifth. The two will meet in what is considered a play-in game advancing to the semifinals of the five-team tournament.

The Warriorette volleyball team found the going tough to start the week dropping matches on both Monday and Tuesday.
The Warriorettes lost a non-district match to Stone Memorial (2-0) on Monday and then were defeated at Coffee County (3-1) Tuesday in their final 6AAA contest of the season.
Tuesday’s loss to Coffee County drops the Warriorettes into the play-in game in next week’s District 6AAA tournament, which will be played at WCHS.

Senior night. Michaela Bruce, the lone senior on the Warriorette volleyball team, was honored prior to Thursday’s game. The Warriorettes were defeated 3-1 by Cumberland County.

The Warriorette volleyball team suffered a disappointing District 6AAA loss to Cumberland County on senior night.
Prior to the game, WCHS honored their lone senior, Michaela Bruce. They opened with a win in game one, but dropped three straight to fall to 2-5 in 6AAA play with one league game remaining.

The White County High School volleyball team suffered a non-district loss at home Thursday to Clay County.
Meanwhile, the Warriorette soccer team was on the road at Warren County in District 6AAA action and suffered a resounding 9-0 loss at the hands of the Lady Pioneers. The WCHS soccer team fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the district.

WCHS soccer and volleyball pick up road wins

Both the Warriorette volleyball and soccer teams got back in the win column on Thursday in road contests.
The WCHS volleyball team logged their first district win of the year with a victory over Cumberland County in Crossville.
The Warriorettes took the 3-1 win over the Lady Jets.
WCHS won the first game 25-20 and followed with a 25-21 victory in game two. CCHS logged the narrow 25-23 win in three forcing a fourth game. The Warriorettes polished off the match with the 25-22 victory in that game.

Alley receives Midstate Coach of Year honors

Randy Alley, a 1982 graduate of White County High School, was recently named the Midstate Coach of the Year after guiding his Friendship Christian volleyball team to its first-ever state title.
At this time last year, that honor and the title were not anywhere in Alley’s scheme of things. In fact, he had thought he would not coach volleyball anymore and focus on basketball.

White County High School has a rich athletic tradition that not only manifests itself on the local area, but also carries over to other high schools across the state.
This year’s TSSAA volleyball state title games had some subtle maroon and gray tints to it.
Two WCHS graduates were coaches of teams that made it all the way to the state finals, one winning the championship.
Friendship Christian School won their first-ever volleyball state title when they captured the Class A championship under the direction of first-year coach, Randy Alley.

Huddling up one last time. The Warriorette senior volleyball players huddle up one last time following the loss in the District 6AAA semifinals that brought their season to an end. Warren County defeated WCHS 3-2 to advance to the finals. The Warriorettes finished the season 20-18.

The Warriorette volleyball team’s last game ended in much the same fashion as most of their season has gone – on a rollercoaster ride.
The WCHS squad has at times this season been solid and shown flashes of great potential and then at other times struggled to put together a whole match.
