Stirring up dust at the plate. A Hunter Funeral Home base runner slides safely home as the ball gets away from the Red Turner’s players at the plate during action at the Smithville Highway fields on Tuesday night.

After last week’s action in the Sparta Little League 11-12 year old boys’ division, Bill Boruff had the league lead.
Boruff’s came in at 6-2 just one game up on Red Turner’s, who stood at 5-3. Hunter’s Funeral Home holds down third place and Sonic checks in at fourth place.

Regular season champs. The Braves won the regular season Babe Ruth title posting an 8-2 mark. Members of the team include: Erik Peek, Jeremy Hoebbel, Cody Merriman, Daniel Lancaster, James Crider, Clint Cannon, C.D. Hindenberger, Logan Merriman, Darin Cole, Seth Davis, Ethan T. Regular season champs. Dustin Cole and the Sparta Braves were the regular season Babe Ruth champions and will be the number one seed headed into the city tournament.

Sparta Babe Ruth’s regular season finished up Thursday with the Braves capturing the league title.
The teams begin play in the season ending City Tournament. The two-day event will crown the tournament champion in Tuesday’s final game.
The Braves, who finished 8-2, will have the top seed going into the city tournament, which will begin Monday, June 25th.

No hitter. Eli McDonald threw a no hitter helping PMI finish off a perfect season in the 9/10 year old baseball division of Sparta Little League. PMI defeated Sparks Transmission 11-1 in Saturday’s championship game.

Precision Molding put the finishing touches on their undefeated season in the 9/10 year division of Little League baseball with an 11-1 win over Sparks Transmission in Saturday’s championship game.

Sonic and Don Randolph finished the regular season in the top two spots of the Little League girls’ softball division.

Red Turner’s Sporting Goods’ baseball team captured both the regular season and City Tournament titles in the Little League baseball 11/12 year old division.
The final portion of the sweep came Saturday night when they shut out Hunter Funeral Home in the tournament championship game by a score of 5-0. Turner’s ended the season with a record of 14-2. Hunter’s finished the year 10-7.

The U.S. Bank senior girls’ softball team defeated Jeff’s Body Shop 9-0 in the City Tournament championship game on Saturday to complete a sweep of both the regular season and tournament titles.

Sparta’s 15-year-old Babe Ruth All Star team saw their quest for a state title come to a close with their second loss on Sunday.
After falling into the loser’s bracket with a loss to a talented Kingsport team, the Sparta squad was not able to stave off elimination when they ran into another experienced travel team, the Franklin Coyotes. The Coyotes rolled to the 21-5 win over Sparta Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville.

Ty Cloyd applies the tag to a Cookeville runner in 13 year Babe Ruth all star action.

Both the 13 year old and 15 and under Sparta Babe Ruth All Stars were eliminated from further action with two losses over the weekend.
The 15-year-old team, playing in Livingston, did open their campaign with a 2-1 win over Jamestown on Thursday behind the pitching of Jacob Chavez. They, however, suffered back-to-back losses for the exit. They were defeated 6-1 by Lafayette and 7-4 by Cookeville. No details of those games were available at press time.

Sparta Little League softball ousted in state tournament

The Sparta Little League 11-12 year old softball all stars traveled to Mayville over the weekend for their state tournament and posted an 0-2 mark.
The opening game on Saturday was against Grainger County. Prior to the game, the host team provided the teams with a meal followed by opening ceremonies.
Sparta fell behind 8-0 early, but rallied to make it close. They came back with six runs late in the fourth inning to pull to within two, but could get no closer, as that was the final score.

The Babe Ruth All Star tournaments start Thursday for the two Sparta teams.
The 13-year-old tournament will be played at the Sparta Babe Ruth field located at the fairgrounds. The 15 year olds head to Livingston for their district tourney.
In addition to the Sparta 13 year old team, four other teams will be taking the field in Sparta this weekend. The tournament is scheduled to begin Thursday at 6 p.m. when Livingston and Cookeville square off. The second game on Thursday will pit Lebanon against Jamestown.
