Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce is continuing its efforts to garner new members with an ongoing membership drive that has already brought in approximately $1,700

During the Sept. 25, 2018, meeting of the Chamber Board of Directors, President Marvin Bullock talked about the efforts to bring in new members to the organization.

When asked how much money they have raised so far, Bullock explained they had approximately $1,700. When asked if the amount was lower or higher than the previous years, Bullock responded that it was a lower amount, but there were still a few days left in the drive.

“We still have a few days,” said Bullock. “It’s amazing how many will come in and join in the last few days.”

The feasibility of doing only a renewal drive with possible incentives for existing members in 2019 was discussed among board members, as well as splitting the event up and sponsoring a two-week drive in the spring and a two-week drive in the fall.

“We’ve talked in the past that there is a saturation point,” said Bullock. “You get as many businesses as is viable, but we need to think about possibly having a break.”

Other items on the agenda included:

-Approving new members of the Chamber

-President’s report

-Hunter Funeral Home voted Member of the Month

-Ben Lomand Business Before Hours event Nov. 6

-Voting on budget committee
