What an exciting time for Kellie Jolly Harper, a Sparta native, after being named as the new Lady Vols head basketball coach at the University of Tennessee.

Last week, after the official announcement naming Harper the new coach, she spent the day in press conferences and interview after interview discussing her goals for the team.  Player commitments and recruiting are a top priority for Harper.

As Harper was asked to comment on her former coach, Pat Summit, Harper stated, “I am here to be Kellie, who learned under Coach Summit.”

The excitement continued as Harper spent the day meeting many people on campus, including spending some time with the men’s coach, Rick Barnes, and with Jeremy Pruitt, the head football coach of the Volunteers.  Harper and her family also spent the weekend at the Orange and White game, and Harper and her son, Jackson, were asked to throw out the first pitch as the Lady Volunteer softball team took the field versus Mississippi State.
