Col. Haynie Sherwood Bastian

Col. Haynie Sherwood Bastian, 84, a native of Tennessee and long time resident of Sumner County, passed away October 20, 2001.
Col. Bastian died at Baptist Hospital in Nashville following injuries received at his farm in the Shackle Island community of Sumner County.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Bastian was a retired United States Air Force officer and a combat fighter pilot with 44 combat missions in World War II.
Bastian was a farmer and active in the agricultural and livestock communities within Sumner County. He was an active hunter and sportsman. That which surpassed his hobbies was his devotion to his wife and family and his love and deep attachment to his farm. He left many friends in the living of his life.
Bastian was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Trousdale Bastian and parents, Nate and Mary “Mimi” Bastian.
Col. Bastian was married for almost 58 years and is survived by his wife Lucy-Allen Doyle Bastian; sons David Allen Bastian and Mark Haynie Bastian of Alaska, John Stafford Bastian, Clinton Adam Bastian, Matthew Quinten Bastian, Patrick Bichet Bastian of Tennessee; daughters Mary Virginia “Ginny” Bastian, Sheelah Sherwood Bastian Parsons, and Sarah Van Horn Bastian of Tennessee; brothers Nate Adam Bastian and Marvin Bastian of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
