Ricky Preston, 22, of Cookeville, a correction officer with the White County Sheriff Department, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with introduction of drugs into a penal facility, drug possession, and possession of schedule II drug.
According to Detective Chris Isom, WCSD spokesperson, at approximately 7 a.m., Jan. 15, 2008, Deputy Kyle Herren and K-9 officer “Max” ran an exploration search of the parking lot at White County Justice Center.
“Max indicated on Preston’s vehicle, and the drug detectives went inside and got him,” said Isom.
The subsequent search of Preston’s vehicle reportedly revealed an undisclosed amount of pills believed to be oxycodone, and a “small amount of marijuana.”
Isom said during an interview, Preston admitted to the investigators he had been bringing drugs into the facility.
“We will investigate dope dealing in White County, even if it involves one of our own,” said Sheriff Oddie Shoupe. “Drug dealers need to get the message, we are not going to tolerate it.”
Preston was booked into White County Jail, where he had served as a correction officer since the end of October 2007. He was released on a $10,000 bond.
Isom said the investigation is continuing.
Preston will appear in court Friday, Jan. 18, 2008.
