As of July 1, 2018, White County High School Athletic Director Terry Crain found himself named into a new role as the new athletic director for the entire school system.
The White County Board of Education had a desire to strengthen White County’s athletic programs at all levels. They thought that creating a position that would oversee the district sports for all White County schools would be the best fit.
Crain will be involved not only in the high school athletics but he will also oversee the middle school and elementary school sports. His primary function is to assist the athletic programs of the district, align available resources, and ensure that district and state policies are followed.
Crain has been the White County High School athletic director for 10 years. As WCHS athletic director, Crain was named as the basketball chairman for District 6AAA. Crain has also seen WCHS add both bowling and swimming during his tenure. WCHS also brought back the WCHS track and field team, and he has set up a co-op for wrestling with Warren County. He has helped White County High School host numerous of Single-A and Double-A district and region basketball tournaments. He has overseen every coaching change, every district change, and has been a primary reason in White County High School athletics being where they are today.
Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger commented on the hire,
“We are extremely excited to have Coach Terry Crain as the athletic director for White County Schools,” said Dronebarger. “He is an intelligent, accomplished individual and has proven himself at White County High School to be an incredible asset as an athletic director. In fact, he is already widely known as one of the finest high school athletic directors in the state of Tennessee. We look forward to the skill and expertise that he will be able to offer all of our programs as we continue to pursue excellence both on and off of the field.”
Crain also commented on being named the athletic director for White County Schools.
“First off, I want to thank Mr. Dronebarger and the White County School Board for this amazing opportunity,” said Crain. “I am excited about this opportunity and privilege of getting to work with the coaches, principals, and staff at each school. Sports are an important part of the overall education experience. Student-athletes experiences, whether it is in elementary school, middle school, or high school, prepare them for challenges they will face throughout life. I look forward to this opportunity and helping our student-athletes receive the best experience while they play for the White County School system.”
