For the second straight year and the second time ever, the White County High School Warriorette cross country team will be competing against the state’s best in the TSSAA state cross country meet.
WCHS, led by four-time state meet participant, Morgan Voyles, will be running against the Class AAA field of runners Saturday at The Steeplechase at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.
The girls team will be looking to improve on their 17th place finish last season.
Coach Mark Voyles commented on his team, “Led by top ten region finishes by Morgan (Voyles) and sophomore, Nikole (Pryor), the girls out performed my expectations at the regional meet last Thursday. We were picked to come in fourth so it was exciting to see them step up. Megan Holland, a freshman, and senior, Ali Justus, have been running so well this year. The four have been working very hard most of the year. Our fifth runner has changed from race to race. Hannah McCoy held the sport early in the season. Then Hannah Howard took her turn in the middle and the last meet, Haven McCoy set a new PR to come in fifth. The three seniors, Morgan, Ali and Hannah, will be tough to replace next year. It will be one last run for White County this Saturday for these three. I am proud of what we did this year. State is our goal every year, maybe one day a state championship. We are going to have to get runners started younger at the middle school and even elementary level to take that next step.”
The Class AAA girls’ race is set for a 1 p.m. start Saturday.
