For the first time since 2012, White County High School has a runner competing in the Cross-Country State Meet. For Van Buren High School, this will be the first time as a team that they have ever made it to the state meet.
Evan Welch and the Van Buren High School Boys’ Cross Country team will be competing against the state’s best in the TSSAA State Cross Country meet, on Saturday, at The Steeplechase at Percy Warner Park, in Nashville.
Welch, a freshman, will be making her first-ever trip to the state meet. Welch has been a standout all season long for WCHS. Welch hasn’t finished lower than fifth place in any race she has run so far this season. Welch also finished in fourth overall in the state standings for the Mid State Cross Country Association Girls’ AAA Division. Welch will be looking to make her stamp, on Saturday, and finish off her freshman year strong.
The VBHS Boys’ Cross Country team will be making their first-ever appearance as a team at the state meet this Saturday. VBHS will be looking to end a magical season by taking some hardware back to Van Buren County.
Welch will get her shot at the course first on Saturday, as the Large Class Girls’ Race will kick everything off at 10 a.m. VBHS Boys’ race will be the last even run, on Saturday. It will start at 2:30 p.m.
