Death investigation on Washington Street ongoing

On Thursday, March 8, at approximately 2:30 pm, The Expositor was notified that White County Sheriff deputies and agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were located at a residential property on Washington Street in the Mt. Vernon Subdivision. The Expositor confirmed that an active investigation was taking place at 707 Washington Street.
According to Bryant Dunaway, 13th Judicial District Attorney General, detectives and deputies with the White County Sheriff’s Department, along with special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, were on the scene conducting a death investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of death will be determined following an autopsy. Additional information, along with the identity of the subject will be released at a later time, according to Dunaway.
The following statement was released by TBI Spokeswoman Susan Niland.
“On Thursday, at the request of 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, TBI Special Agents began investigating a death that occurred at the 700 block of Washington St in Sparta.
“Earlier the same date, Sparta Central Dispatch (White County E-911 Communications Center) received a request to check the welfare of an individual after he failed to arrive at work and was unable to be contacted by telephone.” Stated Niland. “White County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated and found the victim deceased inside of his residence.
“An autopsy will be performed on the body to determine cause of death. The individual’s identity is being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives. The investigation remains active and ongoing.” Added Niland.
