Donald Wayne “Don” Pearson, 80, owner of Sparta Office Supply, passed away Aug. 29, 2018, at Saint Thomas West Hospital, in Nashville.
Mr. Pearson was born July 11, 1938, in Sumner County, to Henry Sherman Pearson and Edith Faye Woodward Pearson.
After completing Draughn’s Business College, in 1958, Mr. Pearson worked for HG Hills and Cooper & Martin grocery stores. He moved to Sparta, in 1966, with his wife, Rita, and their two children, opening Cooper & Martin where Floyd’s Cash Saver currently operates.
In 1972, Mr. Pearson opened Sparta Office Supplies, in downtown Sparta, where it still remains. For over 40 years, he enjoyed working with the many city and county officials, retail business owners, and professional people of Sparta. One of his greatest pleasures was visiting with his customers.
Mr. Pearson’s main focus in life was on God and His work to be done on this earth. He dedicated his time, talent, and energy to serving the Lord in any capacity he could. He was a proud member, deacon, and elder at West Sparta church of Christ. He served as an elder for over 26 years.
While he loved the Lord first, Mr. Pearson was truly dedicated to his family and friends – a loving and dedicated husband, a caring and kind father, and a good friend to so many. He never met a stranger, was honest in all aspects of his life, had a trusting nature, and believed a man’s word was his bond. Family gatherings brought him his greatest joy, reveling in the love everyone shared by being together.
Mr. Pearson was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Frances Hall; and a grandson, Robert Gregory Lynn.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Rita Gregory Pearson; their two children, Mike Pearson and wife Tammy, of Cottontown, Tina Fowler and husband Gary, of Franklin; granddaughters, Rachel Fite and husband John, of Oklahoma, Brittany Crouch and husband Robert, of Ashland City, Caitlin Kelley and husband Mac, of Portland; great-grandchildren Lucy, Frank, Rose and Ruby Fite, Tucker and Lilly Crouch, who gave him so much laughter and fun; sister Ardina Jones and husband Jay, of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and so many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Sept. 1, 2018, at West Sparta church of Christ. Burial will follow at Bush’s Chapel Cemetery, 601 S. Tunnel Road, Gallatin, TN, at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends 5-8, Aug. 31, at the church. Derrick Coble and Chad Ramsey will officiate.
Bobby Cross, Mark Cross, Chuck Whitaker, David Hall, Jack Hall, Sandy Bradley, Steve Bradley, and Lee Whitaker will serve as pallbearers. Kenneth Broyles, Jeff Turner, Ray Shafer, Bill Burns, and Walt Holman will serve as honorary pallbearers.
