To say the Van Buren County Eaglettes have made a turnaround on the volleyball court this season would be an understatement.
Last season, the Eaglettes finished the year in last place. Fast forward to this season; the Eaglettes won the district regular season with a 12-1 district record and will be playing for the District 3-A Tournament Championship, on Oct. 4.
The Eaglettes got to that game by taking down Oakdale in the first round. And then on Tuesday, the Eaglettes would pick up a 3-0 win over Wartburg.
On Oct. 2, the Eaglettes proved why they were the top-seeded team in the tournament. The Eaglettes jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first set, which included three aces by Emma Scoggins. Wartburg closed the gap to 11-6, but the Eaglettes would pull away winning 25-15.
In the second set, Wartburg jumped out to an early 3-2 lead. However, the Eaglettes would pick up 11 straight points behind the serving of Gabby Young to help the Eaglettes cruise to a 25-6 win.
In the final set, the Eaglettes would fall behind again by a score of 3-1 but would tie the game up at 4-4. From there the Eaglettes would pull away, picking up the set win 25-13 to give them the match and send them to the District Tournament Championship game, on Oct. 4.
The District Tournament Championship game will be 6 p.m., Oct. 4, at Clarkrange High School. The Eaglettes will take on Bledsoe County. The Eaglettes won both of their matchups against Bledsoe County in the regular season.
