Ernest L. Burdett

Ernest L. Burdett, 88, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 2, 2017, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mr. Burdett was born March 17, 1929, in Bledsoe County, to Hughel Clay “H.C.” Burdett and Sarah Elizabeth Brewer Burdett. He was a retired over-the-road truck driver and a longtime member of BonDeCroft Baptist Church.
He was preceded death by his parents; sisters, Bernice Gentry, Bess Burdett, and infant sisters, Doris and Betty Rose; and six brothers, Clifford, Fred, Harry, Gene, Bruce, and Dennis Burdett.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Maxine Burdett, of Sparta; son, Ernest C. Burdett and wife Diana; two granddaughters, Crystal Shockley, Jennifer Dodson and husband Nathaniel; great-grandson, Archer W. Shockley; two sisters, Sarah Wood, of Crossville, Bertha Shockley, of Spencer; and two brothers, Johnnie Burdett and Kenneth Burdett, both of Spencer.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Dec. 6, 2017, at BonDeCroft Baptist Church, with burial in Lonewood Cemetery, in Van Buren County. The family will receive friends 3-8 p.m., Dec. 5, at Hunter Funeral Home, and 9-11 a.m., Dec. 6, at the church. Jason Lewis and Cecil Vanwinkle will officiate.
Steve Phelps, Steve Norris, David Pippin, David Hedrick, Paul Sherrell, and Tim Rorack will serve as pallbearers.
