Fall sports practices begins as TSSAA dead period ends

The official dead period ends on July 6.  During this time period, coaches were not allowed to have any practices, contacts, or open workout times with the players. With the end of this mandatory dead period, the fall sports programs will begin next week with the official date to begin listed as July 7.  Some important dates for the high school fall sports are as follows:

High School Football

  • Can Start Practice in Helmets & Shoulder Pads: July 22, 2019
  • First Practice Date in Pads: July 29, 2019
  • First Contest Date: Aug. 23, 2019
  • Scrimmage Rule – After the TSSAA first official day of practice, a school cannot practice with or scrimmage another school until both schools have practiced a minimum of three days. A school may have a maximum of four scrimmages or two scrimmage dates or one scrimmage date and two scrimmages. No tournament format of any type may be used. Scrimmages should look more like practice than games. Once a school has played their first game, there can be no more scrimmages.

High School Golf

  • First Practice Date: July 15, 2019
  • First Contest Date: July 29, 2019

Women’s Volleyball

  • First Practice Date: July 29, 2019
  • First Contest Date: Aug. 19, 2019
  • Maximum number of regular season contests is 35 matches. Maximum number of tournaments is four with each tournament counting as three matches.

Cross Country Track

  • First Practice Date: July 29, 2019
  • First Contest Date: Aug. 19, 2019
  • Maximum number of regular season contests is 11 dates.

Women’s Soccer

  • First Practice Date: July 29, 2019
  • First Contest Date: Aug. 19, 2019
  • Maximum number of regular season contests is 16 matches. Maximum number of tournaments is two with each tournament counting as two matches.

Workouts will start up as soon as the dead period ends, and the scheduling of times will be set by each coach of the various sports.
