On Nov. 24, 2012, White County Girl Scouts came together to prepare and serve a hot meal for Thanksgiving for free to anyone who needed a meal for the holiday. The meal consisted of turkey, dressing, gravy, potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls and dessert. The girls also made sweet tea and coffee.
Hog Wild BBQ smoked the turkeys, and the Girl Scouts got together on Friday night to pull the meat from the freshly smoked birds. They had approximately 280 pounds of turkey for the meal. The girls took in donations from individuals, churches and other organizations, such as Friends of White County Animals. Girls from Troops 1468, 237, 2562 and 5221 came together to serve approximately 400 people. The plan on doing this again next year and only make it bigger and better.
