The Expositor will be honoring the 2004 Golden Apple Teacher during a special ceremony at 2 p.m., Feb. 29, 2004, at White County Middle School, which will also include the Citizen of the Year, Unsung Heroes and Photography Contest.
The ultimate reward for any teacher is to be recognized for the success of his or her students. The Expositor will salute the nominees for Golden Apple Teacher onstage during the ceremony. One teacher was nominated from each of the nine schools in the White County educational system and selected by his or her fellow teachers, parents, and administrative staff. However, only one will be granted the honor of the 2004 Golden Apple Teacher.
This is the third year for this award, which depicts the dedication displayed by White County educators. This year’s Golden Apple Teacher will take his or her rightful place alongside previous winners Linda Mackie, 2002, and Kurt Dronebarger, 2003.
Donny Haley, White County school superintendent, will present the award to the 2004 Golden Apple Teacher. The honoree will receive – of course – a golden apple for his or her desk, as well as a plaque denoting the honor. Suzanne Dickerson, Expositor publisher, will also present the Golden Apple Teacher with a check for $500 to be used in his or her classroom.
Each portion of the ceremony has special significance, with the names of all honorees remaining a secret until the day of the event. This is the eighth annual ceremony for the Citizen of the Year and Unsung Heroes. These honors are especially meaningful to the recipients because they are nominated by people in their community.
Mark the calendar, and make plans to attend the 8th Annual Expositor Awards Ceremony, which will be honoring White County’s Citizen of the Year, Unsung Heroes and Golden Apple Teacher.
