The Highlands Fitness Challenge recently wrapped up in White County, with the top three individuals receiving awards for their efforts. The Highlands Fitness Challenge, a program that aims to cultivate a healthy and fit workforce in our region, had yet another great year in 2018. This year’s challenge began in April and continued through June of 2018. This competition-based challenge is initiated by the Highlands Health and Wellness Committee. It provides an easy plan that enables Jackson, Overton, Putnam and White County individuals to get active.
The Challenge, which took on a new look in 2018, encouraged individuals to participate in community led walks, hikes and health seminars during the three-months period of the initiative. Prizes are awarded throughout the challenge, and awards and recognition are given to top performing teams and individuals. Since the challenge originated seven years ago, over 4,900 participants from Jackson, Overton, Putnam and White Counties have competed in the quest for better health. Many have received incentives and prizes over the years to motivate them to carry on.
Finishing the contest in first place for 2018 was Kim Creasy, with Sarah Hickerson and Jennifer Murphy finishing in second and third place, respectively.
