Ida May Hawkins Stone, 95, of Sparta, died peacefully, on July 9, 2017, in Largo, Florida, her home for 58 years.
Mrs. Stone was born April 5, 1922, in Sparta, to Ester D. Hawkins and Cora Lance Hawkins.
Mrs. Stone was a homemaker and talented seamstress, with a large and devoted clientele, including a few movie stars, over her long career. She always remained in close contact with her six siblings, and one of her favorite things was to join them and her extended family at the annual Hawkins family reunion every May, in Tennessee.
She was predeceased four years ago by her devoted husband of 73 years, Herman Stone, also of Sparta, and beloved son, David Stone, who passed away in 2015. Three siblings also preceded her in death: Pauline Hawkins Humphrey, Charles Hawkins, and Ruth “Biggen” Hawkins Atnip.
There are three surviving siblings in the Sparta area: Willie Eugene “Big Bud” Hawkins, James W. “Little Bud” Hawkins, and Bobbye June Hawkins Cockrell.
Immediate family survivors include two daughters, Donna Stone Masinter (husband, Michael Masinter), of Atlanta, Georgia, Janice Stone Kartt (husband, Michael Kartt), of Tampa, Florida; one son, Jeffrey Kent Stone, of Madison, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Shannon Wells, Allison Justice, Jennifer Morgan, Jonathan Kartt, Matthew Kartt, Stephen Kartt, Jeffrey Stone; five great-grandchildren, Alexander Means, Devon Means, Colton Morgan, Eleanor Kartt , William Kartt; and many nieces and nephews.
Our mother was a strong woman with a robust spirit who liked nothing better than to find humor in her everyday life. She will be missed.
