Joel Franklin “Joe” Davis

Joel Franklin “Joe” Davis, 89, passed from this life Dec. 27, 2017, to rejoin his beloved wife of 55 years, Catherine.
Mr. Davis passed away at his home, in Spencer.
He was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Van Buren County, to Pike Davis and Virginia Brock Davis.
Mr. Davis worked as an engineer at a copper factory, in Ohio, for 10 years. He moved back to Van Buren County to pursue his lifelong dream of farming, which he continued until 2011. He served on the board of directors for the Van Buren County Farm Bureau for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pike and Virginia Brock Davis; wife, Catherine Ruth Grissom Davis; brothers, William Davis and wife Ersie, Fred Davis; nephew, Darell Guy; and niece, Sharon Guy.
Survivors include his son, Larry Davis and wife Jackie, of Spencer; daughters, Janice Davis Schipper and husband Rick Schipper, of Joelton, Pamela Houk, of Spencer; grandchildren, Robert (Andrea) Houk, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Juanita (Phillip) Brymer, of Spencer, Matthew (Stephanie), of Spencer Michael (Gina) Davis, of Spencer, Christy (Raymond) Johnson, of Spencer, Caitlin Schipper, of Joelton; great-grandchildren, Cobin, Caden, Mika, Abigail, Gavin and Creed Davis, Zane Johnson; step-great-grandchildren, Megan and Kristen Brymer; step-great-great-grandchildren, Skylee Brymer, Lainey Kilgore; his sister, Laura Davis Guy, of Spencer; sister-in-law, Jo Davis, of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Dec. 30, 2017, at Layne Funeral Home, in Spencer, with burial in Molloy Cemetery, in Van Buren County. Ministers Doug Benningfield and Gene Brock will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Robert Houk, Matthew, Michael, Cobin, Caden, Lavaughn Davis, Raymond Johnson, and Phillip Brymer.
The Davis family would like to extend its gratitude to Jewell Lee for all her attention and loving care.
