For the Sparta golfers, there was a reversal of fortunes on the second day of the TSSAA state golf tournament.
After a subpar day on Tuesday, Warriorette junior, Shelby Johnson, bounced back Wednesday and turned in a great round to catapult her into12th place in the state.
Johnson bettered her score by 12 strokes on the second day. After shooting an 86 on Tuesday, she fired a two-over 74 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 160. That was the 8th lowest score of the tournament, but due to several ties, left her tied for 12th with Farragut’s Kayland Boling.
Brighton’s Aubree Jones shot a 76 on day two, but her 72 on day one helped her win the state title with a 148. She just edged out Ooltewah’s Samantha Griffith who finished second with a 149.
For the boys, Cameron Bruce had his better round on day one where he shot a 74. On Wednesday, he finished with an 82, which gave him a two-day total of 156. That put him in a four-way tie for 39th.
Hendersonville’s Noah Trenkler won the playoff for the championship. He shot 71’s on both day to finish with a 142. He tied with Smyrna’s Zach Haynes, but won the title in a playoff.
