Kathryn Mitchell Harris

Kathryn Mitchell Harris, 93, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 12, 2008.
Harris was born Feb. 3, 1914, in White County, to Waymon Mansfield and Florence Steakley Mitchell.
She graduated from White County High School and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University Harris taught at elementary and high schools in Doyle, Lebanon and Nashville. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Sparta Woman’s Club, Lebanon Woman’s Club, ADK Educational Sorority, the White County Retired Teachers’ Association and Sparta First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ernestine and Paul Rose, of Georgia, Corinne and David Van Valkenburgh, of Florida; four grandchildren, Lynnea Rose Barlow and husband Gaylen, of Sparta, Kathryn Blackshear and husband Roy, of Alabama, Paul Barton Rose and wife Tara, of Geogia, Gina Highers Storey and husband Eric, of Florida; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were 11 a.m., Jan. 15, 2008, at Hunter Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Highland Cemetery. J.D. Davis officiated.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
