Kellie Jolly Harper (left) is shown with her mentor, Pat Summitt, who coached Harper at the University of Tennessee. Summitt passed away a few years ago. She and Harper remained close friends.

Sparta’s own Kellie Jolly Harper has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year.  When asked about how it feels to be the Coach of the Year, Harper stated, “ I am honored to be named the MVC Coach of the Year. But I also know that is not an award you win alone.  My staff have been terrific this season preparing this young team to be the best they can be.  And hats off to our players for believing in our vision and competing every day in practice”.  The Missouri State Lady Bears take to the floor in the NCAA Tournament, on March 23.

Coach, I have your autograph from your Lady Vol’s days. You were gracious enough to sign a banner Webber High School Ladies bb players and cheerleaders from Southern Illinois had made for the team. I have never forgotten the kindness, you were amazing to watch play. I know you learned about college hoops from THE BEST!! COACH PAT SUMMITT….. Good luck in the tourney, keep dancing!!!
