Kenneth Bartlett Milligan, 76, of Grandview Drive in Sparta, passed away March 29, 2009.
Milligan was born in White County on July 20, 1932, the son of the late Lee B. and Josephine Floyd Milligan.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War and worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service. Kenneth was a member of the Cumberland Heights Church of Christ, a Mason and a Shriner. Milligan was a true public servant, serving as Mayor of Sparta, an Alderman, a County Commissioner, and a member of the White County Planning Commission.
Funeral services will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 3, with Doug Downs and Herd Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 2, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home by Sparta Lodge 99. Former mayors, the current mayor of Sparta and the current county commissioners will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Veterans Honor Guard will honor Milligan’s life and his service to his country Friday at the funeral service and at the cemetery service.
Survivors include wife, Mildred Milligan of Sparta; daughter, Dru Milligan-Otterpohl and husband, Joe of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Laura Neuvendel and Amy Otterpohl; and brother, Ralph Milligan and wife, Wanda of Decorah, Iowa. Many nieces, nephews and many, many friends also survive.
In addition to his parents, Milligan was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Milligan.
