Liberty Square – A Lester Flatt Celebration event this Saturday

After countless hours of planning and preparations, City of Sparta officials and event organizers are prepared for the largest downtown event of the year that will occur this weekend.
The Liberty Square – A Lester Flatt Celebration is set to take place this Oct. 14 in front of the historic Oldham Theater, in downtown Sparta. The Liberty Square music festival is an annual event sponsored by the City of Sparta.
As with each year, the purpose of the event is to celebrate Sparta’s rich heritage in bluegrass music. The Liberty Square event is named after a local bluegrass legend, Lester Flatt. The annual Liberty Square event was the 2015 IBMA “Bluegrass Event of the Year.”
The Liberty Square event features a lineup of talented bluegrass artist each year, and this year is no exception. Some on the line up for this weekend include The Grascals, Flatt Lonesome, Blake Williams and Friends, and Larry Stephenson Band.
This free musical event provides a wide variety of craft and food vendors, family fun activities, a classic cruise-in car show, live bluegrass entertainment, and wraps up the night with a spectacular fireworks show. The Liberty Square Celebration will also have numerous community organizations, clubs, business, and churches set up around downtown Sparta as several businesses will also be open for the event.

- 11:55 a.m. – Mayor’s Welcome
- 12:00 p.m. – Blake Williams and Friends
- 12:55 p.m. – The Grascals
- 1:50 p.m. – Larry Stephenson Band
- 2:45 p.m. – Flatt Lonesome
- 3:40 p.m. – Blake Williams and Friends
- 4:35 p.m. – The Grascals
- 5:30 p.m. – Larry Stephenson Band
- 6:25 p.m. – Flatt Lonesome
- 7:05 p.m. – Fireworks Finale
The City of Sparta welcomes everyone to come and visit downtown Sparta for a day of bluegrass music, crafts, food, car show, fireworks, and family fun at this year’s Liberty Square – A Lester Flatt Celebration event, on Oct. 14.
