Little League All Stars already in tourney action

Senior girls All Stars. Sparta will be represented in the senior girls All Star tournament by the following girls (front row, l to r): Gracie Villard, Julianne Guy, Latisha Raines, Olivia Nash, Camille Brown and Brittney Jones. 11/12 year old baseball All Stars. Representing Sparta in the Little League baseball tournament are the above young men. The ultimate dream of each Little League All Star team is make it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Very few teams ever make that trek to the “big show” for 11 and 12 year old baseball teams, but dreams are what aspire athletes to greatness.
Sparta’s 2012 version of its Little League All Stars will be embarking on an opportunity to reach the elusive goal that no previous Sparta Little League team has achieved, winning the start and advancing to the regionals. They began that journey this weekend as they began play in their area tournament.
The Sparta Little League All Stars are playing in Smith County for their first action toward the state tournament. (Look for details from those games as they are provided in coming editions of The Expositor.)
Members of Sparta’s 11/12 year old glitter squad are J.J. Baksa, Kyler Allen, Matt McCulley, Isaiah Temple, John Hughes, Jason Farris, Kendall Barker, Jacob Sparks, Macon Girdley, Dyson Reese, Austin Miller and Holden Howard.
They are managed by Kevin McCulley. He will be assisted by Jason Allen and Mike Sparks.
The team was slated to play pool play games in the area tournament on Friday through Monday with the outcome of those deciding who advances on to the district.
Sparta will also field three other All Star teams.
The 10 and under All Stars have also been playing in Carthage this past weekend.
Members of that team are Joe Nelson, Adam Simmons, Jarrett Glass, Drake Williamson, Trevor Bray, Jesse Dunn, Jacob Rittenberry, Will Griggs, Dylan Nelson, Jack Sparkman, Tucker Nash and Brayden Hawkins.
Coaches of the 10 and under team are Matt Bray, Jeff Glass and Joseph Nelson.
The third boys’ team from Sparta is the 7/8 year old coach’s pitch team. They will be managed by Brad Smiley. Assisting him are John Morris, Daniel Miller and Jeff Cowen. Members of the team are Cade Smiley, Riley Morris, Grant Miller, Jacob Cowen, Tyler Billings, Dillon Cochineal, Jon Isaac Baker, Logan Brown, Brandon Noonan, Blake Shockley, Jeffery Loveland, Alex Neal and Jack Guy.
Their team will play their games in Smithville, but no schedule for the games has been provided yet.
The fourth and final team is the only girls’ All Star team from Sparta this year. The Senior League Softball team will be playing their games in Portland. They are being coached by Mindy Copeland and Derrick Dale. Members of the team are Alyssa Flatt, Ally Copeland, Brittney Jones, Camille Brown, Savanna Bolin, Nicole Parker, Bailey Murray, Kerrie Copeland, Brittney Cantrell, Kaitlyn Heath, Olivia Nash, Latisha Raines, Julianne Guy and Gracie Villard.
Results from each of the All Star teams’ games will be published when they are provided.
