Lonus Junior Barnett

Lonus Junior Barnett, 84, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 17, 2018, at his home.

Mr. Barnett was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Albany, Kentucky, to Lonus H. Barnett and Bell Sells Barnett. He had over 31 years as a work career at General Motors. He was a farmer and avid gardener as well. After retirement, he relaxed by working to help his community. He would cut wood, pick up neighbors’ leaves, and clean off wintry sidewalks, in Indiana. When he moved to Sparta, he gave a lot of his time helping to maintain Plainview Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Barnett, Gene Barnett; and sisters, Ruth Dickerson, Faye Curtis, and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Barnett, of Sparta; daughter, Kathy (James) Long, of Elmwood; son, Michael Wayne (Debbie) Barnett, of Weston, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael Lonus Barnett, Keith Myers, Rodney Myers, Josh Myers, Matt Myers; three great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Jay (Louise) Barnett, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and sister, Eva Crow of Muncie, Indiana.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Aug. 20, 2018, at Plainview Free Will Baptist Church. Burial with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard will follow in Plainview Cemetery, in the Cassville community. The family will receive friends 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Aug. 20, at the church. Gary Humphrey will officiate. Music will be provided by Manuel and Annett England.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hunter Funeral Home.
